The person who handed you the BB gun will legitimately give you 10 million dollars if you shoot and kill the mother rat.

Would you do it?

I'm just curious if you'd be more willing to take the shot if it was something considered a bit more vile than a Robin.

2. Rats are tough. A BB gun might not kill a rat.
But, you could put a rat's eye out with that thing.

Hec, kids are tough too. We used to have bb gun fights. I think it got to where we needed a 5 pump rule though.

9. I take killing things very seriously, but for 10 million dollars...
yes, I would do it.

A lot of good can be done in the world for 10 million dollars. (Including helping animals.)

That being said, I'm a vegetarian and really find the thought of killing anything extremely disturbing.

(I strongly suspect that there's a story behind this that I don't know. I'm assuming that this is a legitimate question though rather than a copycat.)

17. I would do it for the robin also although the robin is a little more difficult...
not because it's cuter but because they don't spread disease in the same way that rats do.

It would disturb me to do it, but I would do it and not feel a great deal of guilt over it. I have eaten meat in the past, and I am responsible for the killing of each of the animals that I ate, so it's not the first time that I've killed something. :(

18. No. The rat's done nothing to deserve it.
Now if the MF rat insisted on building her nest in my roof even after several attempts to dissuade her I'd feel differently. I still wouldn't use a BB gun. Since I don't know how to shoot I'd be looking for something a bit more humane than that.

20. A rat's life isn't worth 10 million dollars. Or even 1 million.
Being a former large snake owner, I've killed many rats in my lifetime. It was necessary in order to protect the snake and alleviate the suffering of the rodent. Truth is, rats are "what's for dinner" everyday for a snake.

So of course I'd kill it. And then feed her to a snake.

23. I'd freeze the rat in a freezer bag and feed it to something someday.
Unless you consider that a dodge. Even if I had to just bury the rat, I'd kill it.

Bottom line: ten mil is A LOT of money. I'd probably kill most anything that wasn't protected by law for that much payola.

24. I live on a farm
where pests are killed every day to protect the crops. (not me personally holding the gun, but I have been present when it is done)

Crows and raccoons are very damaging to money producing crops, in fact a raccoon can do hundreds of dollars in damage in one night.

So, in a sense my family has to choose money over the lives of animals every day. I am not happy about it, and it upset me a lot when I first moved here. I guess over time I got desensitized to the it.

We never would shoot a jackrabbit or a grey fox, though, because although they do damage it is minor.

45. For ten million dollars, I'd shoot any animal you asked me to except
for endangered ones, like tigers or white rhinos.

I'd probably be suicidal afterward because of the guilt, but at least LyricKid wouldn't have to be poor anymore and my Mom would be taken care of. I'd eat a wheelbarrow full of horseshit to spare my family any more poverty-related suffering. Hell, I'd shoot *myself* for that, if someone were seriously willing to promise them the money afterward. :(

50. Probably
Probably would. Make it a mouse, and the chances go up, because those lil things are horrible and not at all friendly. I would actually have an easier time killing the robin, as birds kinda skeeve me out a bit. Chickens mainly, but my spite for them bleeds over into general Ornithophobia. Ok, not really phobia, I just don't like them, but I am fine going with my wife to feed ducks at the park. Even if I hate them little bastids.

Needless to say, big bird was never my favorite, and while I am intrigued by the double feather of the Emu, I would rather never meet one. And I feel a strange glee every time I eat a chicken nugget. Strangely, I kinda like Crows and Rooks.

And back to the subject at hand

Given that I have kept dead rats in my freezer (leading to some awesome quotes from unexpecting friends, btw), and I know that I can shoot quite well, I think that I would have little problem with doing a rat in for 10mil. But then, I consider that I have never knowingly killed any mammal or other vertibrate.

I have been hunting, and the only thing that stopped me was my unwillingness to take anything but a sure shot on the bouncing deer. But maybe I am too soft hearted and just covering myself.
I have managed to never hit anything with a car.
Somehow it was always other team members that delivered the lethal injection after surgery in relevant college courses.
When I go fishing, I let others catch and then knock the fish on the head. I think that's mainly an aversion to fish, given my allergies.

But maybe I am just not a killer. Show me the 10 mil and the rat, hand me the gun, and we will find out.
