What's the longest you've ever waited in line?
Why did you wait that long?

1. Two hours about five years ago to renew my permanent residence permit.
Italy's immigration department has a nice system where you can take a number, estimate from the number of people in front of you how long your wait might be, and retain your place in line while you go do errands or something. Unfortunately, Switzerland has no such system.

2. That's not too bad, I waited that long for a ride at an amuzement park once
then the ride lasted less than 2 minutes and I have never gone to another one since.:hi:

Slightly off topic, how many different countries have you lived in?

3. I would never wait in line that long for a chance to get motion sickness.

I've visited a lot of countries, but I've only lived in two. :hi:

13. That's exactly why I gave up on amusement parks
We have an amusement park very close to where I live and my ex and I got season passes one year. It was so cool!! We would wake up, get baked, then go to the park and ride a few rides really quick before the park got full. When the lines started to form, we would just leave and come back the next morning. Very pricey for the season passes but so worth it.

Now, I don't go at all.

14. It seems like most parks have worked to try and amuse people on the long lines
instead of working to reduce the lines. I found that concept insulting

with "you've ridden a real one."

We still wanted a ride on the fake one.

I remember after the two minute ride everyone on the coaster started chanting "Do it again! Do it again!"

18. Actually, somehow it added to the fun of it all.
The ride had just opened up so hence the super long lines. And the fact the line was so long kinda built up the excitement for me. As I recall the ride was actually pretty good, so it wasn't a total waste....that was a pretty fun trip to Six Flags. Didn't get back until 3:30 in the morning.

16. Most of the movies opened at midnight
and I remember one was a 6+ hour wait.

We also once waited in line for more than 9 hours to get our kids into a limited number of opening for summer camp. That was a huge mistake because they hated it.

11. about 16 hours
When I was a student at the University of South Carolina in the early 1970s we were ranked in the top 5 in basketball. It was very rare to have a game on Sunday, but we were ranked #4 and playing #2 Marquette. We got in line about 5pm to pick up tickets the next morning at 9am. Actually, it wasn't in line; everybody had blankets and sleeping bags and it was a big party. USC hit a shot at the buzzer to win the game.

32. absolutely
That was back in the good old days when the cops didn't really hassle students. Atmosphere was like a rock concert with joints being passed around, coolers of beer, etc. And, we won the game.

I had a great aunt that used to live in Denville. I used to visit it all the time as a kid. Very nice area, lots of trees and lakes.

20. No, Denville keeps us lined up outside the municipal building in December like animals
And since the whole town is one-hour parking, you HAVE to get one of a very limited # of permits, if you don't want daily parking tickets.

We'd line up at 10pm, and they wouldn't let us in until about 7 or so. It would actually turn into quite the drunk fest outside the municipal building. I'm glad I don't work in downtown Denville anymore.

40. Did you serve time there too? I was doing graduate work. I first visited
in 1980, so I had a brief time to see it at its grayest.

I was there for all the riots, mafia gunfights, and the shooting of the parliament building. I met Yeltsin in the McDonald's next door to Central Telegraph.

I'll say this: the most important thing I learned was the value of 'order'. There was no effective garbage collection. Folks just made piles and set it on fire. There were always open flames around. There was no effective police protection. No effective fire department. There were roaming packs of disgarded dogs. I learned to sleep through the mafia gunfights. In the dark months they'd shoot red flares into the sky so that they could see what they were shooting at.

It was a living laboratory for a political scientist.

But it made me understand how 'Democracy' is a synonym for 'chaos' to a lot of folks, who'd choose order over chaos any day. The US's forcing Democracy on folks is insane.

What a relief the modest foreign policy of the Obama Admin is.

29. 4 hours for concert tix, but totally worth it.
Some friends and i went to several shows on Queensryche's "Empire" tour, most of which had been general admission seating. The only one that wasn't was to be the one in Charlotte, so i went to the mall at 6am to wait for the TicketBastard window to open at the music store.

There were about 500 people waiting by the time the store was about to open, and the management decided to do a 'lottery' to setermine line position. I had been 7th when i had arrived at 6am. At 9:55am, my position was moved to 12th. Still good enough for 4th row center seats!

34. Lines were a way of life
especially near the end when every knucklehead in the world wanted to come to the dead to party. Lines of cars to get into any venue, lines to get out were worse as it took hours to clear the parking lots sending thousands of drunk, stoned, tripping people out on the local highways. Bathroom lines forgetaboutit.
