New Star Trek TV series
Bryan Fuller (Heroes) wants to create a new Star Trek television series.

"I love the aesthetics of the new movie," Fuller said. "I think it has to be set in that world, ... but I think it has to be a different ship than the Enterprise. I think the Enterprise has to be sailing on the silver screen, and I think we need a new ship with a new crew and an entirely new adventure that is in the timeline and the aesthetic of the movie, but it's telling a different story."

Star Trek without the Enterprise?

1. Worked for DS9.
I still want to see a show centered on Klingons though.

12. We certainly don't need another starship-centered series.
Gimme Starfleet Intel, maybe.

2. It could work, it's a matter of getting quality people to write and act and direct
although to be honest, it will be a tough task after so many TV series. I have to think there is little untread ground, at this point

6. That's the advantage of setting it in JJ Abrams new "alternate" timeline
I would like to see the corruption of the Federation and its descent into the Terran Empire ala the Mirror Universe.

8. I think BSG might have ruined me for Star Trek.
Unless they can approach the writing, acting and production values of that series. Then they'd really have something.

19. The "Star Trek 90210" idea has been floated for at least a decade.
I think it would be a good idea, especially in that it would allow the show to return to its roots and explore the concept of being human again (in the context of young adults coming of age and to terms with living in a multi-species world), but the idea has always had one huge and glaring problem. Modern trekkies don't want a social show, and 90210 would alienate a huge portion of the existing fanbase. The show would be a great vehicle for picking up an entirely new type of viewer, but nobody knows exactly how many or what type of viewers it would pick up. So far, Paramount hasn't been willing to take a gamble on the idea.

14. The recurring theme of S.T. centered around what it means to be human
They created great characters in contrast to that theme-- Spock, Seven of Nine, Worf, Data... Whatever they come up with will succeed if they stick with that formula. It's what makes Star Trek so great.

That shit in Nemesis doesnt count. Admirial Janeway my ass.

Maybe they can do a Star Trek set in the 30th century or something. To see what Starfleet is like in 500 years after TNG

18. The problem with Trek today is developing new and interesting storylines.
If you combine the movies, TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise, there have been a total of 735 Star Trek episodes and films. With that much previous material, it's very difficult to come up with a new and interesting idea for the series without falling into the "Earth is at risk and humanity must fight for survival" rut that has plagued Trek for a while now. Trek was a success because Roddenberry used the show as a platform to push edgy social issues and to explore the human condition, but there's only so much condition to be explored. After a while, it simply becomes a challenge to avoid rehashing the same storylines.

Voyager was a great example of this. The show started well, but they soon started rehashing so many TOS and TNG storylines that a friend of mine had a t-shirt with a picture of the Voyager with the title "USS Recycler" underneath. When fan discontent with the recycled and stretchy storylines got too great, they launched into war mode, first with the Jem Hadar, and then with the Borg. Those wars carried the series, but they were neither innovative nor edgy. It was a play to the "Woo lets blow shit up!" wing of SciFi fandom. Trek was once a lot more than that, and I honestly hope they leave the show dead if they can't find a way to bring that originality back to it.
