1. I didn't know what to do with a lost dog today...
...so I took it to a shelter. Then I was told that was the wrong thing to do. That's what was wrong with me today.

2. That was decent of you to do that. I thought that's what you're supposed to do with lost dogs too.

So what did you do then?

3. I did take the dog to a shelter
Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 12:02 PM by TCJ70
...I thought that was what I should do too. Then I posted about it here, thinking someone might read it and feel good about the story. Little did I know (and here comes the "what I learned" moment)...

I was told that I gave the dog a death sentence and that I should have taken in the dog personally. I can't do that, as it's not allowed at the apartment I live in. None of the people at my work (where the dog was dropped off at) could take it either as they already had dogs. I guess some people were just concerned that the dog would just be euthanized (despite the fact that the dog had a collar and obviously belonged to someone), but they decided to express that concern by telling me I was a terrible person.

8. Well, I think you did the best thing you could.

"I guess some people were just concerned that the dog would just be euthanized "

Maybe it would. OTOH, if allowed to run loose, it might starve to death, get run over by a car, etc.

9. Just a point,
having a collar means nothing to a kill shelter. Instead of complaining about the responses you received, you should be happy that you learned a valuable lesson. Just my .02.

50. You are not a dog person...
yet you are a wonderful person. I wasn't aware that shelters euthanized animals until a few years ago. You did a good deed, and for that, please feel good about yourself. The owner may be found, or this dog may rescue a human soon. A dog just rescued me....and now my life is full. I had to smile when you expressed the yuck feeling about having a dog in your car....Although I love my new doggie, I did not expect to have to sleep with her. She's almost two years old, a German Shepard, and she was very insecure. The yuck part of sleeping with a dog left as soon as she snuggled in with me....

Thank you for not letting this sweet dog roam loose...Now the dog is safe, and if it makes you feel better, you can call in to the shelter periodically to see when it has found a home...

peace~

Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 12:19 PM by EastTennesseeDem
I was told I'd start in late May, then school budgets got slashed and many schools stopped buying books (It's a book depository warehouse job), and I was told I'd start in early June. I went in on June 3rd to get drug screened and was told to be on standby and that I would get a call to come in in about a week, no longer than two. It is pushing two. I need to start making money, but almost as importantly, I am bored and I something to do.

49. I don't think DU's hard drive has enough space for a complete answer.
One thing in particular that is of consequence here is that I am very literal minded. I implicitly take words at their literal meanings without regard to the implied or assumed matters that everyone else seems to understand instinctively. I think this comes off as callous when I don't mean it to be and I usually walk away scratching my head having no idea what was so damn offensive in what I wrote. I also tend to take others literally when perhaps they don't mean it so.

89. I'd give anything to not be able to relate... but I do
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 01:12 AM by abq e streeter
but the worst of it is I don't think it had to be this way. I've sabotaged myself time and time again, and have thrown away the gift of the considerable amount of talent and intelligence my creator blessed me with.

85. I'm not good with problem employees....
Hence I have 35 employees who like their jobs (and me) and 5 who hate their jobs and make life miserable for everyone. Since this is a state job, it is basically impossible to fire them. So, in short, my job is a daily hell. Plus after being a boss for 33 years, I'm worn out, washed up, ineffective, tired, bored, all those things that happen to men at 57. I've become the stereotype that is scorned, hated and held up for display as 'what not to be.' Other than that I've done pretty well.

86. Just spent a few minutes breathing in acetone fumes. Whoo.
I was going to go jogging while waiting for the resin I was just working with to dry, but I think I'll wait and make sure I'm not gonna get woozy halfway through. I think from now on I'm going to use disposable containers and brushes. Cleanup is too expensive and too smelly to be worth it.

88. In real life, I'm friendless...
It's not that I'm disliked; it's just that there's nothing particularly remarkable about me that inspires people to call up and talk...find out how I'm doing...fill me in on major happenings in their lives.

I have many acquaintances that I'll run into at gigs, or share a meal with in-between. They seem glad to see me. They appear happy to learn of good things in my life and sorry to hear about difficulties. But it's exceptionally rare that think of me when I'm not there. I find more often than not that people whom I thought of as friends are happy to let the friendship be one-sided...with me on the effort-giving end...but freak out at the thought of being supportive of me beyond, "Gosh...sorry to hear that".

I guess I'm just utterly forgetable.

Ah well...Maybe it's karma stored up from ignoring people in a past life.

92. Some real good and interesting answers here. I may be PMing some of you.

Now, as to what's wrong with me:

Physically: Plantar fasciitis, overweight.

Socially, emotionally: I wish I had a thicker skin (well, come to think of it, I wish that were true literally AND figuratively.)

Sometimes I lose my temper and show my arse and then feel like a fool around that person(s).

I wish I were more outgoing and popular. If there is reincarnation (which I don't believe in, but IF there is), in my next life, I'm going to be outgoing and popular. If I can't, I'm not coming back.
