I wish the Animals NEVER covered "House of the rising sun"
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 07:23 AM by HEyHEY
I LOVE the Animals and you can keep your stones and your Who, the Animals were the most Badass band outta England back then. But cause that one song is all they seem to get remembered for I fucking hate it. You have a band like that? A band you love but their big hit eclipses all their other stuff?

4. I have a different take on it.
Try looking at it this way.

If they hadn't covered "House of the Rising Sun" when they did, their other great stuff might not
have gotten the recognition it deserved. "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", "Don't Bring Me Down,"
or even "Hey Gyp" had a shot at the deserved exposure they did get because "House of the Rising Sun"
ensured that anything Burdon sang would at least get some attention.

9. Heard about Tony Bennett being interviewed and being asked if he was sick of

always having to do "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and he replied "It gave me the keys to the world". So , excellent point re: The Animals and "House..."

5. That was the first song I learned to play all the way through on the guitar, so I can't hate it.
But I do understand what you're saying.

A lot of great bands are only remembered for one song these days.

But it could be worse: a lot of great bands aren't remembered at all,
these days.

And others are only remembered for their most LAME & commercially bland...
every time I hear Neil Young on the "Oldies Station", it's always
"Cinnamon Girl"...GAWD that's some CRAP!

Would it KILL them to play "Hey Hey, My My" every once in a while?

11. Weird, it's always been "Heart of Gold" and "Old Man" for me.
I think it'd be cool if they played "Powderfinger" once in awhile.

6. Too bad Eric didn't hang it up years ago
I saw him two years ago and did he ever suck! And I thought it was funny that he called his band the Animals. They were about 25 years old. What a joke that was.

7. "I'll Be There For You" by the Rembrandts
My wife and I loved this band; even met them once in a small venue in Atlanta in 1993.

A couple years later, they recorded the theme song for Friends, hit #1 for many weeks.

It wasn't a real Rembrandts song; their real fans knew the difference immediately.

A year later, they broke up.

8. They really were the first "badass band"; watch old clips of them...
they are putting off a surly vibe, no showbiz smiles, etc... none of that bullshit.
At that same time, even Keith Richard was still grinning and bobbing his head like a fucking Beatle or something.

10. I did a post a few days ago about doing the same songs in bar bands year after year

as if Mustang Sally was Wilson Pickett's only record or I Feel Good was James Brown's etc....so I understand what you're saying, although I've also done I'm Crying,Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, and I'm Mad too over the years. But point well taken...BUT, consider this ( and I hope you're a Dylan fan,but even if not...), it was The Animals version of House... that inspired Dylan to return to his rock and roll roots and that ,in my opinion, changed all of 20th century popular music for the better.( and I still don't think there's ever been a better rock album than Highway 61; a few came close..London Calling, among others). I'm also with you in that The Animals were my absolute favorite of all the British Invasion groups ...but doesn't lessen, for me, how great many of the others, including The Stones, Who, Kinks,Beatles, Them etc were; just that for me The Animals were the most soulful and ass-kickin of em all.
