Loony tunes question: Why did Yosemite Sam--a character named for

a place in California, use a river in Texas (The Pecos) as a reference point to quantify his rootin', tootin', and shootin'?

1. Sam had quite a temper,,,that is all that he could remember..

actually, I met him once...He was really patterned after Fritz Freeling, hot tempered Warner's toon director..or that is how the rumors go. Met him at a world premere of a movie he worked on in 79..
One thing Friz said that I recall is that none of the directors ever got a cent from the use of the toons on TV..but, they were paid well..back in the 50s..

2. I've done a bit of Youtubin' here (I can only read regulations for just so long....)

And it seems he has quite a variety of references to be the roughest toughest, rootin'est, shootin'est hombre to ever cross, or be north, south, east or west of. I just remembered the Pecos line from my childhood.

Your post brings up a point--did (does?) Friz pronounce his first name with or without the "t" sound? Is it "Frizz" or "Fritz"? When I was a kid I wondered about that too!
