Video shows deputy warns woman, 72, 5 times before shocking her with Taser
:wtf:

AUSTIN, Texas - She dared a deputy constable to shock her with a Taser.

So, he did.

Video released by a Travis County Constable's Office shows Deputy Chris Bieze confronting 72-year-old Kathryn Winkfein after stopping her for speeding on May 11 just outside Austin.

Video from a camera mounted in the deputy's car shows Winkfein cursing and challenging the deputy and even daring him to use the Taser on her.

"You're going to shove me? You're going to shove a 72-year-old woman?" she yelled.

3. That would've been my grandmother 15 years ago
She once got mugged, CHASED DOWN THE MUGGER, and they both ended up being restrained by the cops.

4. I didn't watch the video but that is totally how I am going to be.
Hell, I'm half way there. Decked a drunk man at a baile. In Mexico.

5. What's a "baile?"
The best part of my grandmother being mugged story?

We heard it happen (she got mugged right outside my apartment door), didn't realize it was her, and ignored it. We lived in a bad neighborhood, so people yelling right outside our apartment was nothing new.

6. "baile" is dance
and I'm sorry about your grandmother - but I've lived in a few bad neighborhoods myself, and opening your door during someone else's fight was just one more way of asking for trouble

8. No need to be sorry about my grandmother
She was fine. The only person who ended up getting hit or anything was the mugger. She chased him like 4 blocks where he ran into some cops, then she started wailing on him. The cops had to hold her back.

9. litterally it is a dance, usually in a hall with lots of drinking
either hidden or not. Live band. Can be for quincenera, wedding, Saint Day, whatever - this was after a rodeo. My (female) friend and I had consumed a fair amount of beer and needed to go. Couldn't find the bathrooms and found some bushes a ways away. In Mexico you need to have an escort for these sorts of activities - especially when there are drunks around. Two of us wasn't enough. We got surrounded by some grabby assholes and I got pissed, decked the most aggressive one - he went down and we went back inside fast. Got the local kids we had gone with and got out of there. I'm a legend now.

7. Tasers are weapons, not remote controls for suspects.
If a cop is not justified using bullets, then he is not justified using an electric gadget.

If you wouldn't shoot, don't pull the Taser. In the old days (like three years ago), cops were trained in how to take peeple into custody.

10. It's pretty shocking... and aside from the pun, the cop is inexcusable.
This is a 4'11" women half the size of the cop. The cop is doing everything he can to escalate the situation, raising his voice and threatening the women. You can hear at the end, just before he tases her as she's trying to push past him to get back into the truck, that she's near tears. It wouldn't have taken much to calm her at that point--she was already looking for a way out.

But Bubba wanted to use his toy.

This was in Austin. It's about all anyone is talking about, and even the good ole boys who normally defend the cops about everything are calling this man a Nazi. The only one defending him is his commander, who seems to be arguing that since he knows the cop, the cop couldn't have been wrong. Oh yeah, and the commander didn't miss the chance to point out that little old ladies shouldn't use language like that. Those are two people who should be forbidden to carry guns. Walmart needs parking lot sweepers, too.

And the woman was ridiculous, rude, and confrontational, and she was speeding on the most dangerous section of highway in Texas, so her behavior isn't really excusable. But she didn't need to be tasered for it. At 72, tasing isn't much less risky than shooting.

Sorry to ramble. I've been fuming about this since yesterday.

13. Occasionally I encounter cantankerous seniors
I find it funny, not a source of anger nor do I consider them a threat. I can't imagine any justification for using a taser in this situation.

19. If the cop can't handle a cantankerous 72 yr-old woman, then the guy
has no business being a cop.

14. did she double dog dare him?
:eyes:

christ, when a man with a gun has to subdue a 72 year old woman by electric shock just because she verbally challenged him, it's time for that guy to hand over his badge and gun.

To protect & serve, not "to prove I'm a bad ass".

21. I'm not a fan of tasers and think this could have been handled
better, but that woman was a bitch. I watched the whole thing on video today.

Just because you're 72 does not give you the right to go 15 miles over the speed limit, yell at a cop, and in general be an asshole in public.

22. Why am I not surprised it was a Deputy Constable?
Those guys always seemed to have something to prove. Not ALL of them, mind you, but a lot of them.

This guy does not have the requisite make-up to be a cop. Being a cop means you take a lot of crap. You have to rise above it.
