Does anyone have a "silly" name? I' m Dick Steele, and I went to HS with "Bonny Bush"...
..and a couple of other folks whose names might be AMUSING...
and it was really not a large High School.

Bonny was 2 years behind me: I graduated the same year as her
big sister Lori.
Never really got to know her, but was aware of her existence.
LOVED her name- it made me feel better about mine.

Seriously, if your name is "Steele", You might wanna
think twice about naming your son "Richard"...especially
if he was born 45 days after NIXON got elected!

And if your name is "Bush", you should probably
think twice before naming your daughters "Bonny" or "Fluffy"....

And if your name is "Lear", PLEASE refrain from the temptation
to name your infant daughter "Chrystal Chanda".

(That's not a joke- I know people who did that, & I stand ready
to offer testimony as a "character witness" when Christol Shanda Lear
is placed on trial for the murder of her parents.)

Life is STRANGE, fellow DUers.
If you don't think it's strange, then you really need to get out more often.

1. I knew a guy named "Anel Mistry"
Not quite sure how it was spelled; he wasn't my customer, but my co-worker talked about him.

First name pronounced "AH-neel".

So, welcome to "ignore".

The one that I've had for about three weeks now? And that takes 4 seconds to download with a 56k modem?

13. My sunday-school teacher's wife was named Mary Christmas
Frank was the SS teacher for the teenagers... heck of a guy, too. Laid-back and candid in his speech, looked like a biker, and was a Charlotte police officer. His wife Mary was an almost stereotypical southern SAHM type, and we loved the goodies she brought into the teen class and for youth-group parties. Their oldest daughter was one of my best friends.

I asked Mary one day what it was like to have a name like that, and she told me that having that prospective name was the biggest thing she had to deal with when it came to originally getting engaged to Frank. They were apparently engaged for a couple of years before she really decided she could accept having that name. Being conservatively traditional, a hyphenated last name, or keeping her own family name, never entered her mind.

For some reason, your post jarred a memory loose
from my calcified old brain: Back in Junior High,
rumor had it that two of our teachers were secretly dating.

Some folks claimed that Ms. Legg had been seen "out and about" with Mr. Foote.
(Yes, it's pronounced "foot")

I should google them- I wonder if she's Mrs. "Legg-Foote" now.

they would televise the finals. At the finals the all-tournament team would be announced. Back in the late '60s the team included one Fonda Dicks. Ms. Dicks was a good player BTW.
Years later i was talking about the tournament with a co-worker. I asked him if he remembered Fonda Dicks (because I thought I had maybe dreamed it up). He remembered her also.

ETA - she's on the IGSHAU all time scoring list around #20 or 30:

He talked about her in Public Speaking alongside an exercise where we had a list of fictional names, and we had to guess the person's socail class, occupation, etc, from those names.

33. Talking of Richards...
I had a good friend at university, his name was Manley. That was his last name. He never went by his first name of Richard.

Also there was a lady who I occasionally served at the supermarket I worked at as a teenager. I didn't care much for her, she was a bit rude to me. But then her name was Mrs. Vile.

And following on from a thread elsewhere... I feel sorry for any young boys with the last name of Bates. In the UK it was (and in some circles still is) a convention to give young boys the title Master (rather than Mister, which is for adult men). You'd have your mail address to Master Bates. It also gets worse - there's a guy whose name is William Ankers. Mail would be addressed to a Mr. W. Ankers.

Mark.
