Gotta go to a graduation. I am dying to see the aquarium they have there.

This is the first time we have travelled with Bella, so it will be interesting to see how she does in the car for 6-7 hours.

13. There are a few
We were in what's called the "Five Points" area, I think. I don't know the address and I don't want to guess. It's been awhile ago.

4. The aquarium is horrible.
You aren't missing anything. I don't like animals in captivity anyway, but I'm from CT where the Mystic aquarium can at least rehab injured animals since they are right on the coast and release them back into the wild.

My husband and I took our son the summer it first opened, and will never go again. It is a complete waste of space, has piss poor design, and they have been accused of killing 2 whale sharks and 1 beluga---all which came out later. One of the whale sharks stopped eating due to something they put in the tank, so they force fed him by tube, and punctured the stomach which led to his death. We will not support them in any way.

I was trying to pull up a link to the stories (it was big news in our paper) but my computer is not cooperating. You can google Ralph and Norton----although Fernbank Museum sometimes has live animal exhibits it is way better than the aquarium.

Bella seems so good natured; you could probably do the CNN tour and she'd be occupied. (it's about an hour, and it's really hot here now, so you don't want to be outside too much)

Have fun!

5. She is so good natured. The girl only cries when she is SUPER tired.
Other than that, not a peep. Happy happy joy joy.

Unfortunately we really won't be able to see much at all. We have graduation in the morning, and then we have to make our appearance at the graduation party later that night. Off the next day to Florence, AL to see my sis-n-law's new baby.

Edited on Wed Jun-03-09 10:35 PM by Lex

I had a wonderful time there, and I've visited aquaria all over the the U.S.

If you get a chance to see it in the future, please do!

Some pics I took:

8. I loved the aquarium New Orleans had, and I know it probably
couldn't have compared to Atlanta's. Isn't Atlanta's the biggest in the world?

12. I heard that. Wasn't real sure if it was true. I know they have/had a
beluga whale there, and I am so fascinated with whales.

10. Yes, I loved the aquarium in New Orleans too. Great penguins there
as I recall.

The Georgia Aquarium bills itself as "the world's largest" so maybe they are. I didn't have any quibble with the way things were laid out in the building. It'll take you the better part of the day to experience the place. They have a big cafeteria inside too. Most everything is geared for people with kids, so that's good.

The building is cool too:

14. That's your opinion.
I expressed mine. I will never go there again, and they have been investigated for the deaths of whales that they paid big bucks for from Taiwan. And I don't give a fuck about being able to eat overpriced shitty french fries smack in the middle of an aquarium right when you walk in. I cared more about these otters in one of the hallways(not sure where you were supposed to go, it was like, you just decide which way) that were all huddled together and scared, with people gawking at them.

I guess I'm just weird.

(Also, I didn't feel confused about which way to go inside the place because I had a map from the Information Desk. One is even online for downloading.)
