I'm surrounded.

Of the 11 houses on my street, 10 families are evangelical Christian. Of those, 2 families sport "Sons of Confederate Veteran" tags. (yep, issued by the State of GA, CSA). The patriarch of one of those is a mighty hunter, in or out of season. He's been cited for having dead turkeys in his yard, killed out of season. The violation was found due to a report of rotting flesh from the birds.

The other "Son" lives alone, fallout from a non-adjudicated "exposure" case. Victim was a 9 YO girl. His family moved out 3 months later. The neighborhood children still use his above-ground pool, though.

He's also a quick-draw enthusiast; he and the hunter live next door to each other and are constantly comparing their weapons and deadly skills. *Any* holiday is a hoot!

The 5 acre plot behind me was bought and is being exploited by a "primitive" church; they also scam the government with their 'faith-based' food-bank. The pastor introduces himself as "Brother Somesuch, I'm a recovering alcoholic." His entire flock is comprised of fellow white-knucklers, most previously addicted to meth, now addicted to Jesus. Several of the parishioners live in a cluster of trailers in the back of the lot.

There's no sign or other indicator that this "church" sponsors AA meetings.

The "patriarch", father of Pastor Somesuch, rides up and down the gravel road on his rascal, smoking cigarettes butt to butt. Every month or so an ambulance hauls him off, code 3.

Xin loi for the rant. Might explain to some why I'm touchy on the topic of fundies. Fifteen years of harrassement...

CAVEAT: I intend no disrespect to any chemical-dependents in recovery. I don't believe these particular folks are "in recovery", I'm pretty sure they just switched addictions.
