Anyone here ever see the movie "7 Days in May?"
It was made back in 1963 but I swear the story & plot is so much like today. A radical General takes over the Government.Frederic March (a life long Democrat & one tough bastard who spoke out against McCarthy)plays the very unpopular President.

I saw this last night again(I've seen it about 10 times)& for some reason it stuck out more than it had in the past.

If anyone is looking for a GREAT film to watch this weekend, CHECK IT OUT!!!

1. Yes, plenty of times
The military never pulls the coup off, though, just plans it.

2. I agree. Another excellent John Frankenheimer film.
Frankenheimer also directed "The Manchurian Candidate"

"Seven Days in May" is a terrific film.

This is on Turner Classic Movies...right?

Thanks,
Terry

3. good movie
but so is Fail Safe - shows how a nuclear war could start then tells us at the end that its not possible!
And of course there is Dr Strangelove.

5. One night, TCM ran Strangelove, 7 Days in May and Fail Safe back to back
After watching all 3 of those in succession, I felt like sleeping UNDER the bed that night...

4. Great movie
I've always figured that Kirk Douglas' character was sort of a riff on Smedley Butler. Butler found himself in a very similar situation back during FDR's presidency (and began on his now-famous writings after the attempted 'coup' was busted).

8. Lets just keep our fingers crossed
The DO NOT remake it! They are remaking the Manchurian Canidate (they're kkeping the same title yet the film takes place during the Gulf War ???)with Denzel Washington in the Sinatra part & Meryl Streep in the Angela Lansbury part.Even though I like both of them, I find this film a HUGE mistake!

9. Makes me wonder if the wingnuts have contemplated
an Operation ECOMMCON of their own. Makes me shudder to think of it.

SDIM is one of my favorite B&W films.
