and you've got a side dish.

10. Of Irish descent
and the only thing I could think of when I saw the OP was "Who hasn't?" So, I clicked on it to see what the joke was. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was a serious question.

12. We used to boil new potatoes with fresh green beans
We'd go out to the garden and pick a pot full of green beans and dig a couple of hills of potatoes. We'd snap the green beans, scrub the potatoes and put them all in a pan with some water, bacon (and sometimes onion as well.)

When the beans are done and the potatoes are cooked, drain off the water and add a bunch of butter. We'd always add salt at the table but you can add it to the pot while cooking.

I still consider that a huge treat.

What can I say--I'm a farmer's daughter!

16. My mom used to make creamed potatoes.
Dunno if you have ever had them, but they were, essentially, boiled potatoes in a fairly rich butter cream sauce. Sometimes we'd even put pearl onions and peas in there too.

NOT exactly low fat but they were amazing. I have not had them in years, and now I miss them!

Mostly with butter, salt and pepper. Sometimes with gravy. Though in recent years, I've turned into a lazy cook, so I've gone without. I really ought to get a community garden plot so I can raise some veggies, then be forced to cook them. I suspect it's too late for this year.
