A Howlin' Wolf question:
Years ago (maybe 30-35 years ago) I had a Howlin' Wolf 45 record
with an electric version of "Tail Drag" on one side
and an electric version of "Evil" on the other.
Wah Wah peddle, fuzz guitar, heavy bass parts -
quite awesome. Try as I might I have only found
the acoustic or somewhat electric versions.
Does anyone know which versions I am looking for?

7. i envy you
i had a chance to see him, but was too much of a chickenshit to go into this rough looking club in e. st. louis. the marquis said, 'the howlin' wolf orchestra', which i took as a jab or take off of the mahavishnu orchestra. but man, me and my buddy got to lookin around and talked ourselves out of it. i'll always kick myself in the ass for that.

i was just a highschool punk, but i sure loved me some wolf, and mud and bessie

9. It was a cool environment...
The Ann Arbor blues and Jazz Festival. Sort of a Woodstock like setting. One stage and a whole sea of hippies. Saw some amazing acts there including Miles Davis. Ah, those were the days.

5.  "Evil" is up-tempo as well. Very nice.
There are many many listings of these songs and Chess has their
hand in lots of them. I'll bet someone here has these exact recordings.

8. try one of those online music services
can't think of the name of them, but it's about 10 bucks a month, and you can listen to and download tons of blues or any other music

can't think of that really popular music service, i'll think of it later im sure. but it's cool as hell

10. Probably from...

An album called "This Is Howlin' Wolf's New Album", which was an attempt to "modernize" his tunes with overdubs - came out in the late 60's. Wolf HATED the album, and the issuers bragged about that fact, which is reason enough for me to have never obtained it.

12. looks like you might be right
This is vital blues. We don't hear the likes of this again
until Freddy King's "Burglar."
You would find this version of "Evil" very interesting -
very solid band.
This is some haunting Wolf.
Way ahead of its time.
