A prospective client flat-out LIED to me today, so I'm actually glad the deal fell through
Met with him yesterday. He's getting screwed on Web hosting ($14.99 per MONTH for a TINY site), and a big part of the fee comes from the "site builder" feature offered by the host (a poor-quality Web Site that a person with no Web Design skills can assemble in an hour).

I noticed that the host's fine print said that it's $14.99 per month if you pay monthly or $12.99 per month if you pay a year in advance. I asked him if he paid in advance and he said "No, I pay the $14.99 every month."

So today I called him back regarding his decision on redesigning the Web Site and moving him to a host that I've used for other clients that will charge him $2.99 per month for the first six months and then $4.99 per month after that.

He said "I still have six months on this deal I signed with the host and I paid in advance so I'm going to let that run out and I'll call you in six months."

I told him that the promo I'm running is for this week, and that I'll welcome his call in six months and will tell him what my fees are then. He said "I understand."

His restaurant was a little shithole across from the high school. After school the kids come over and make themselves comfortable at all of the tables outside and order one coke and one slice of pizza and sit there and chain smoke, which all blows back into the restaurant. Little punk-asses going through the ritual fist bumps and spitting and walking like they've got loads in their pants.

You may ask "Why did you go after a client like that in the first place," which is a reasonable question, and my answer is "I'm going after ALL of them if there's a snowball's chance in hell that they'll pony up the cash."

My guess is that this guy got cold feet overnight and figured he's selling pizza and has a shitty Web Site, which is better than no Web Site.

Onward and upward...
