Anyone post on Craigslist to advertise a garage/yard sale?
Am holding a huge garage sale weekend after this weekend because am moving to another state.

I've seen some postings locally on C-list for yard sales, and some people even include pics of the bigger items, like furniture.

Does posting on Craigslist generate more people coming to the sale?
The local paper charges over $40 to post a few lines in the local rag, and frankly, I need every dime I can keep at this point ;(
(some people even post their phone numbers, but I wold never do that! :hide: )

Thanks in advance for response, input or advice. :hi:

1. I have seen postings here on CL for garage sales
Don't know if they do pay ads anywhere, but I would certainly try it.

Also post signs on community bulletin boards.

2. Thanks, KW!
Have never posted on CL, but am sure it's pretty simple.

No real community boards in this little town.
But, I do have quite a few left over local election yard signs that will be covered with poster board to place strategically on the high traffic corners to my neighborhood, and to guide people in.

How are you doing? :loveya: :hi:

4. Am sad, too
and am talking with my son about it later this afternoon.

Asked him to come by after work. He asked why. Told him I needed to talk with him.
Am sure he knows...he's always insightful, almost telpathic, with me.

damn i have to stop crying

5. I feel sorry for Craig's List, since they had that online killer
Seriously, how would we feel if Parche ever went over the fence and the media started talking about the "DU Olive Garden Bandit"?

7. as seller i post only one or two items at a time but as buyer sure i look at garage sale ads
Edited on Thu May-28-09 09:23 PM by pitohui
for a garage sale i would not ever post a phone number, if they are serious, they will show

for an individual item, if they email me and sound real, then i send them my phone number and talk w. them before giving my address

for a garage sale, you're posting your address to begin with, much more security risk than a mere phone number, so i'm not sure what you're asking?

no one any more reads miserable little bitty classified in a paper that gets ink all over their handse, craigslist is better and yes we DO look at the pix before deciding whether it's worth a drive, if you have any good stuff, photo it and put it in your add, with a note that it's first come first served

it'll work and it's free -- i love me some craigslist!

hope you make boocoo $$$ at your sale!

12. pitohui!
THanks!

I will have help at this sale from some friends.
Sounds like CL would be the way to go.

People here in this little farm town (about 50k people) do still read the (really bad) paper here, but it costs so much!

THanks so much for your input and advice! :hi: :loveya:

9. We did it...
and didn't put an ad in the newspaper. Had a good turn-out, so I'd have to say that it worked pretty well.
