6. We just had a contingent in from our company's HQ in Paris...
I do not (yet) understand French, but listening to the conversations was just cool. We were talking about the most mundane stuff in English (believe me - I was in the meetings) but when they broke off to discuss amongst themselves... Ce magnifique!

:-)

I don't speak it but I've heard it constantly all my life, and I love it. It sounds like home to me.

9. To shift the question: What English accent is most pleasing to the ear?
I'd have to say with strong Scotch or Irish brogue.

(I think "brogue" is the right word, but maybe not.)

14. Agree.
After I read your subject line but before reading your text I thought "Scottish or Irish." (Of course, there are accents WITHIN those two, but ...)

With the alternating vowels and consonants, it develops a natural rhythm that's just cool.

25. Uhhh...English.
Sorry to get all eurocentric on you, but I've never heard speech in any language that could possibly compete with Molly Bloom's ending soliloquy from "Ulysses" read out loud. Or the plainspoken honesty merging with flghty imagism of Bob Dylan's lyrics. Or my wife saying "I love you" to me at night before we go to sleep.

For me, English is still the shit.
