I just watched Susan Boyle's latest performance and again I am thrilled.
However, I've also been recently thrilled unto death by Adam Lambert, and I don't watch t.v... it's just the publicity they've been getting. I'm amazed that people have been catty about Ms. Boyle and can only imagine that those who criticize with venom are yet young and hopeful. As for Adam Lambert... wow. I hope he doesn't accept an offer from Queen; I loved Queen with Freddie Mercury but it will never be the same. Lambert is something new.

This is my first and probably my last post on popular culture. I do this shit in the dead of night because nobody is reading, but I am totally passionate about it! :P

6. Well in fact I don't know how to read or write.
I have a gifted parrot on my shoulder that is telling me what's on the screen

and a thousand monkeys typing on a thousand keyboards until the parrot is satisfied. :)

2. I wasn't as impressed with this performance.
She has a nice voice, she was a bit wobbly at the beginning, but it didn't wow me like her first performance.

I am more wowed by the 9-year-old Japanese guitar wizard.

3. I'm not.
But it's because what wows me is not sheer talent, but its context. There are a number of incredibly gifted young people in the running, and their time will come. You know? There's more to this woman than just her voice.

I know many disagree, it's just my feeling.

5. Well, I haven't seen the other contestants on Britain's Got Talent.
Susan will probably win; she definitely has the judges on her side, and milions all over the world were blown away by her first performance and her "context," myself included.

I'm just saying "Memory" didn't move me. She seemed stiff and unsure. Maybe it was the song choice. I just didn't get the impression her heart was all the way in it.

But I do love the "underdog whose time has come" thing.

What do you think will come out of this if/when she wins?

7. She did seem stiff at first, and her first five seconds were awful.
I'm moved by her because of her age and circumstance and all things being equal, I believe she deserves this recognition. The other contestants are younger and a couple of them are extremely gifted. Like I implied in my OP, I am moved by her circumstance as are most of her admirers, I imagine. She has a unique voice but it's her strange presence that makes it interesting.

This stuff isn't life or death for me, so I feel free to cast about my opinions. Have you listened to Adam Lambert sing "Mad World"?

I need to go to sleep!

12. I hadn't heard his Mad World until just now
Very good job. I didn't think I'd like it, since I love the TFF version, and since Lambert has been too screechy for my tastes on the other songs I've heard him do. But I think he nailed that.

13. Ms. Boyle would have a great career with musicals
Either that, or in operas. You'd be surprised at the number of plain Janes with voices like hers in operas. She'd fit in great in a Wagner or Andrew Lloyd Webber opera/operetta!
