So the dog comes trotting into the house with a rat tail
sticking out of her mouth.

Won't open her mouth, won't drop it.

Finally she lets it loose on the carpet. It was either dead or stunned.

Eeeeew.

She's still looking for it now, but it's been "dispatched". I will never ever let that dog lick me again.

Eeeeeew!

We'll watch her carefully for symptoms in case she ate any others that could have been poisoned. Thank God there were no bites from this one.

My husband is my hero at the moment, handling all cleanup operations.

2. Our Border collie tagged one today at the arboretum
She first treed three squirrels while on her leash so she was in "hunting" mode. A hapless rat appeared near some low bushes and she grabbed it. She has killed rats with a quick shake, but she had this one by its rear and put it down fast like it pissed in her mouth, or something. She just watched it as it scrambled into the thicket. When all is said and done, she prefers pancakes to rats.

3. FYI: rat poison is a vitamin K blocker. If she got some via rat, high doses of Vitamin K will fix
A friend had to do that after her two dogs found and ate a whole brick of rat poison. :scared: They were fine.
