work out question
I have finally started working out again after many months of being laid up. I got in my 30 mins of cardio yesterday and really enjoyed it. Today, I am pretty damn sore, and there is so much conflicting info on fitness.
Is it better to do every other day at first, or should I just work through the pain and do it everyday, I can't remember which is best for the muscles........

1. Working through the pain is the best way to make the pain disappear.
The day two and three pain, I mean. After time off, I know my first workout will leave me sore, and that working out again the very next day will ease the soreness more quickly.

Army doctrine says that you build up by working to muscle failure one day, then working other muscle groups the next day. This means alternating muscular strength days with cardio days. If you're not actually working to the point of muscle failure, though, there's less need for the recovery day in between sessions.

2. Go ahead and rest...

When starting an exercises program, I think it's best to do whatever it takes to get you into the habit of working out for the first few weeks. If you push yourself too hard at first then there's less incentive to keep it up.

Once you're in the habit, I recommend alternating between cardio and resistance training for overall fitness. What are your goals?

3. Here's my amateur advice.
Cardio stuff can be done everyday. Many people around the world and throughout history have done "cardio exercises" everyday as part of their daily living.

If you get into heavy weight training designed for muscle growth, you should only work an individual muscle like that 2, or at most, 3 times a week. You need time for the muscle to recover and grow or you'll actually wind up tearing it down.

6. One more thing to add
About the pain your experiencing, and I'm assuming it's just muscle soreness and not injury. Several years ago I worked at FedEx loading trailers. I was in decent shape at the time but I'll never forget how incredibly sore I was after that first day. Everything was sore. It hurt to take a deep breath. I considered not going back but I did and the second day wasn't nearly as bad. And so on until I never felt in as good a shape as I was doing that job. There was a 50lb limit on the packages, but the vast majority were in the 1-20lb range. It was like heavy cardio exercise everyday and, like I said, I never felt better.

If you don't think you've actually torn something (doubtful), I say go ahead and continue every day if you don't think you'll get mentally burnt out. Every other day, or 3x/wk is just fine too. Manage you time spent doing it to prevent burnout. Don't do it to exhaustion or too frequently or you'll just get really sick of it quick.

7. thanks for the input
It is just the ususal muscle soreness......nothing big, but I am walking kinda funny,,,lol ....those upper legs, ouch
I'll give it a try once I get motivated, I'm really lazy today, and think I was just using the soreness as an out.....sigh....gotta get off my ass....no pain no gain, right?
