Poll question: Flame war (note: EXTREME earworm warning)
Edited on Sun May-17-09 10:06 AM by Bossy Monkey
If I may be serious for just an instant, I wanted to put on "What Made America Famous?" by Harry Chapin, but as it doesn't have flame or fire in the title, I decided against. If you don't know it though, most definitely check it out; you might be the first person not to cry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIvQQXGyr3A

Edit: "Light My Fire" replaces "I'm On Fire." You're already on here once, Bruce.

1. How could you have left out the Doors' "Light My Fire"?
In a similar vein, but without fire in the title, there's Peggy Lee's "Fever."

2. I knew I was forgetting something!
Considering the cascade of votes, I think I can get it on. Never liked "I'm On Fire" that much anyway.

9. Really thought this (or maybe Elmer Fudd) would run away with it.
I guess a lot of people have forgotten the Ohio Players. Ah well.

24. If I got started on all the "burning" numbers, I'd need 100 slots
eg hunka hunka "Burnin' Love"

Much as I love X and like "Burning House of Love," I'd probably go with either of the songs called "Burn" by Dream Syndicate or John Wesley Harding. Some kinda psycho, me.

36. That's the first one that I thought of, but I decided not to vote. There are a lot of good
songs in the poll itself. I'm staying out of this one.

Hear it:

BTW, the song is about the many Bush Administration crimes and misdeeds.

On edit: added the BTW

I'm on dial-up; I can post links but pretty much can't follow them unless I feel like waiting a half hour.:)

30. You are correct...
...besides the BushCrimes, it was "inspired" by Mr. Joel.

(Full disclosure: it's my band.)

I haven't used dial-up for years, are sites that stream audio still difficult to use when on dial-up?

31. Difficult, verging on impossible
A buddy from Seattle keeps sending links of songs from a college or NPR station (maybe both) that I need to hear. I haven't been to successful at that. I'll try to listen to yours, though; I'll just read a book while it's compiling... compiling... compiling.:)

33. Unfortunately, there was no way to pause while the whole thing downloaded
and going back and starting again after at least some of the song had played didn't help. But what I could hear of it sounded AWESOME. Next time I'm someplace with free wireless, I'll be sure to listen to the rest. (By the way, the word I was looking for was "buffering... buffering... buffering," but of course Jango doesn't have that kind of display.)

34. Sorry that didn't work for ya...
...you are correct, "buffering" is the word - on dsl or cable modem, Jango streams nicely without the friggin buffering.

But thanks for trying and especially thanks for the "AWESOME" on what did play for you! Hope you get to hear the whole tune some time soon...

16. Oh man, how am I not remembering these?
Well, I'm only embarrassed about the Johnny Cash one. Oh shit! The Eno reminded me of one of my favorites: Building On Fire by Talking Heads. YouTube alas does not come through on that one.

18. You remembered quite a few of the others ;)
"Baby's on Fire" was the first one I thought of, then "Ring of Fire". I still prefer Wall of Voodoo's version, though I love Johnny Cash :)

I had to look up the others from my collection and stumbled onto the Nick Cave title on YouTube.

Oh, found "Building on Fire" for you - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rekw4N8W2aE

Of course with only 10 slots, I'd have had some hard choices to make if I had remembered them all. Regardless, good suggestion!:toast:
