LOL. I was cruising Goodwill's online auction site last night and thought I struck gold, a book autographed by President Eisenhower. I immediately put in a high bid that would be tough to beat and went to bed. Got an email this morning from the seller letting me know that there was no way the signature was authentic and offering to retract my bid. So I checked the signature on the book and compared it to official signatures, and on finding significant differences, successfully got my bid withdrawn. heh, only then did I check the copyright of the book, it was written in 1972. Eisenhower died in 1969. LOL.

Let me just say, a mighty thanks and mucho appreciation goes out to the seller for their honesty. They easily could've pocketed a couple hundred dollars for a fake signature.

1. Why list it as an autographed book...
if the seller knew it was fake and was going to have to contact all bidders to inform them as such. Why not just list it as a book, no mention of the fake or a mention in the original ad that the sig was a fake.

2. yeah, I don't know
from the pictures, its too big to NOT to say something. Though you're absolutely right that it took too long for them to say it was a fake. On the book's page, an update stating it was a fake went up at 5am and I got the email at 8am.

I knew it was old, because it said "24 BC" right on it.

On edit: lucky for you that you were dealing with a scrupulous seller!
