Y'all are going to think I am crazy, but...
I prefer the sound of vinyl to a CD any day.

1. I think that's a fairly commonly held opinion by audiophiles.
Vinyl has a warmer, more full sound.

But, it loses in convenience. Although, I suspect if you used a turntable to transfer your music to digital format you can gain some measure of convenience while maintaining some of the sound characteristics. I dunno. Maybe.

2. Having spent many years dealing with vinyl records,
I think they are a colossal PITA. They scratch and skip and warp and you have to be really careful with them and fart around with phonograph needles. They CAN sound better if they aren't scratched or warped, but they usually are. CDs sometimes sound too bright and crisp, but they are a lot easier to deal with. And iPods are even better.

3. I am a horrible handler of vinyl and CDs.
That said, I like the skips, etc. on my old albums. Kinda like a well loved teddybear....

13. Can you recommend some source for getting a turntable? I have a lot of vinyl
albums, but no way to play them.

Much appreciated.

Oh, and it would even be better if there were some way to transfer the vinyl albums to some kind of other source, like cassettes, so I could exercise to them.

25. I prefer LASER DISC to DVD. I've got quite a collection - much better picture.
The only downside is that there's no "pause" on it, but it does fast forward fairly quickly to get you back to your spot and 45 minutes is about the most one side will hold, so you do get an intermission.

27. Probably like an LP to CD - sterile is not always better.
I like LPs because you can hear the subtle parts of the performance that the noise reduction and digitizing eliminates on a CD. There is no comparison. Laser disc is the same way - it IS the movie. DVDs just aren't as "real".

On another note, there are movies you can only GET on Laser disc (or deteriorating VHS) - for example, "Side Kicks" (Chuck Norris - and a very good movie - no politics). A lot of them never came out on DVD. The discs are rather inexpensive on eBay, especially in lots, and the players can be had for about $60.
