I've had a MySpace page for over a year now, and I found it to be boring.

53. I just joined, and spent the first several days finding old friends, and spent

the rest of the time mindlessly clicking on the site, reading inane and uninteresting comments from these old friends, who mostly seem to be commenting just because they don't really know what else to do, while we all wait for someone to say or do something interesting.

Seems like a good site to keep contact with friends, but so far to me it's not a place to hang out and post endlessly. There are a lot of games and personality profiles and quizes that are diverting if you're bored, and there are fan groups and such. I just lost my cool with someone who called Wanda Sykes a racist, for instance. Can't wait to see how much hate I get over that. :)

There are probably groups to meet people interested in complex, sophisticated conversations about art, literature, quantum physics, political theory, and such. I just haven't been there long enough to find them.

I've been on facebook since freshman year of college. That was back when it was ONLY college students, and a good way to remember people from class, phone numbers, birthdays, etc. Now, it's not NEARLY as good, but it's still a fuck of a lot better than myspace. I go on Facebook to keep in touch with friends from high school and undergrad; I loathe talking on the phone, and remembering to email someone whose email you probably lost years ago sucks as well.

If you have a bunch of friends who are on facebook, join. If you don't, don't. It's not a draft, it's just a social networking site.

People will send you "virtual drinks" and other stupid virtual gifts, you're supposed to send them back - but accepting or sending these gifts opens another application which claims it needs all of your information to work. Your main page will, unless you basically mute everything, be bombarded with stupid surveys and quizzes.

My girlfriend was trying to get me to join for a while. It's been settled, though - not a fucking chance. Even though she claims to love it because she found some old elementary school classmates through it, it pisses off even her.
