Has anyone else seen any movies by Hayao Miyazaki
Edited on Sun May-10-09 01:21 AM by ccharles000
I love his movies and have seen most of them. My favorite one is Princess Mononoke. Some of his more famous movies are Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service.

1. I haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle
but I have seen most everything else. Of his older works and more serious works, I think Nausicaa is the best, though I still love My Neighbor Totoro. Spirited Away was beautiful, moving and such a great change in all the characters over the course of the movie. He is such a wonderful storyteller! So is his good friend Takahata ;)

8. Castle in the Sky and Howe's Moving Castle are great movies too!
Panda Go Panda is easily the lowest budget and lowest target audience age movie of them all, but it is still a good movie.

One thing I like is how he reuses characters. Kirsten Dunst did the voice for The eldest girl in My Neighbor Totoro and also in Kiki's Delivery Service, but what was weird is that they used the same animated character as well! They also used the same father, character and voice. There is no relationship between the characters in the two movies - they used them as actors. The youngest daughter from Totoro is the child in Panda Go Panda. The Kiki character is also in Spirited Away, but I don't think Kirsten Dunst did the voice. And the Older woman character is pretty much the same in Castle In the Sky, Howe's Moving Castle, and Spirited Away.

Great stuff, that.

Miyazaki's life-long colleague and fellow director :)

17. I will always love 'My Neighbor Totoro' partly because it was the first
Hayao Miyazaki flim my son and I saw (8-9 years ago), but mostly because it's magical. A few years ago we bought that same 'Totoro' when our neighborhood video rental place closed, and we've bought a couple and borrowed the rest from the library, except for 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind'. I'm looking forward to watching one more!
Thanks for the link to the Wikipedia page, now I want to look up his son Goro's film, 'Tales from the Earthsea', when it comes out in English, and find out more about his son Keisuke's wood art.
