Our TV died last night.
Not that I care all that much--we don't have cable, and we hardly use it anyway. We were playing the Harry Potter "Scene It" game with LyricKid, and halfway through our second game the picture just disappeared. We tried turning it off and on, and none of the buttons worked. When we turned the power bar off and on, it came back on briefly, but then the volume started going up and down like crazy, and the picture was coming in and out, and then it just went blank again. It's really old, though--we got it at Wal-Mart five or six years ago.

LyricKid is not amused, as this means no video games for a while, but I look at it as a blessing. He already spends 80% of his day outside playing. This will just boost it up to 90%, and on rainy days, he can read a book. :D

1. Wow, Sorry... so did ours...
Last night, also. Not our main TV...the one in the back room...it was 11 years old...

Look carefully...there are some amazing bargains out there..

3. Please accept my deepest condolences.
It sucks when a TV dies, especially when you're in the middle of using it.

4. Betcha you can get a decent tube one on Craigslist
There's a glut of them now due to the hi-def/flatscreen transition.

5. This one was a tube one, too.
I'm not worried about replacing it, though. As I said, we don't really need it. If we want to watch a movie, our computer plays DVDs. :)

6. Shameful for a tv to only last 5 or 6 years.

7. $99 at Wal-Mart
Hell, I'm shocked that it lasted longer than 2 years, lol.

8. Take it out back - one shotgun blast into the tube.
Paste a printout of your favorite FOX asshole on the tube first.

9. Our freecycle frequently has televisions up for grab.
If you have a freecycle group in your area you may want to check there.

11. Nah--I'm really, truly not worried about it.

We honestly don't need it. We'll replace it at the end of August. It'll just be one less thing that we have to move.

13. Just bought a $50 TV--27"--today off Craigslist for my son's dorm room
next year. Bought from a grad student moving to NYC.

Last year's roomie had the TV, and his roomie for next year doesn't have one, either.

Not worried about TV effect; my son made Dean's list this year and was invited to join
the national honor society for 1st-2nd year students.

14. My condolences on the demise of your television.
I lost one once in a rather spectacular fashion -- it caught fire as I was watching it. No flames that I saw, just smoke coming out the back. I unplugged it and it was all over...
