Poll question: Garage Sales. Do you dig them?
All town garage sales going on around here. I have to deal with masses of white trash humanity as I drive through town and I'm about to go psychotic.

So put me down as Choice 5.

1. No.....
I have a very nice garage!

Why would I want more than one?

2. I don't bother with them but
they aren't a bad way for people to recycle things they no longer need and make a few bucks in the process.

3. Depends on the sale.
I generally like the ones where it's an older person/couple downsizing and getting rid of 40-50 years' worth of stuff, because I'm more likely to find something that interests me that way. That's how I got my beautiful 1964 Magnavox console stereo ten or so years ago, and once I found a 12-inch cast iron skillet, expertly seasoned from years of use, for just two bucks. I've found a few other gems also.

It seems to me that garage sales used to be better when I was younger. Now, it seems like most of them are trying to sell stuff so junky I wouldn't even try to *give* it away.

4. I live to garage sale...
even if I don't find anything I want to buy...
and I usually don't...

I love looking through other people's stuff.

I like to see what the neighbors read.
(You can find out who the Illuminati
freaks are...)

I especially love estate sales, where
finding something I want is bittersweet,
because you know it was kept for YEARS
by someone who cared about it, and sometimes
you can kind of piece together what kind
of life they led by the accumulation of stuff
throughout the years.

5. If I know they will have vinyl albums
or if I am driving by and see boxes of them, I stop. Otherwise, no way in hell.

9. We like estate sales
They are hit and miss, but we've been to some with nice furniture, small appliances, etc.

10. They intrigue me, but I don't stop. My goal is to lighten my load, not accumulate more.
It's a non-stop battle to get stuff out of this house. Oy, with kids, it seems to pile up. I keep trying, though.

11. I hate them because they are so popular here that it's hard to walk my dog on weekends because
the traffic is so ridiculous.

But maybe they are a good thing in a way: they lubricate the transfer of junk to other people, and it does not end up in a landfill.

But it is amazing to me. Although I'm young, I live in a retirement community, and yard sales here are almost an obsession. It's incredible and I think it is disruptive, but maybe it's a good thing.

12. Totally not my thing.
I know there are great things to be found, but 1) I am not getting up at the butt crack of dawn to dig through trash 2) I just am not a digger. I love to find great finds, but I hate to dig for them.
