Poll question: When are you going/or have you gone to see Star Trek
It could very well be the biggest movie of the year. And I know, some of you are going to tell us how pure you are and will wait for the DVD, but there is NOTHING like sitting in a theater, surround sound blasting your ear drums, watching a film like this. And if it's hot, that cool AC is just the best.

1. Don't expect too many "trekies" to answer "boinking".

10. I shall boink no woman, who cannot adequately answer the question
who is Zefram Cochrane, and what is his contribution to humanity? Hmm? I'm waiting...

BTW, I'm wary of the new film, because they've been over-hyping it (and I'm not a big media watcher, so having noticed that much with minimum contact, makes me balk until viewer reports come in).

15. You're on, sweetie. Inventor of Warp Drive.
Also made the first contact with Vulcans, 5 Apr 2063.

Well, all the reviews are good, including those on DU who have been known to trash their mothers.

I'll stop before this turns into a Lounge sex thread and the mod SWAT team busts through the door.

there's a restaurant in Bethesda I haven't been to in a while, so I may go there for lunch and then go to the theater that's down the street.

20. we can't not go
We're science fiction nerds. (Also I'm retro-hot for the 60's Kirk: :loveya: )

There's nothing about this movie we're really anticipating or excited about, we just can't NOT go see the big science fiction thing. We'll go the Sunday matinee.

22. I can easily NOT go and I love science fiction, too.
I just require that it make me think instead of just react to the SFX-eye-candy ;)

Here's what I want to see more of from Hollywood for science fiction that makes the audience think:

First Spaceship on Venus (from the Stanislaw Lem book)
Alphaville
2001: A Space Odyssey
Solyaris (another Stanislaw Lem book)
Contact
Ghost in the Shell
Akira

At least the Japanese understand hardcore science fiction and make good movies from it. Unfortunately, it requires an educated audience to make them even want to see a movie that makes them think ;)

25. for reals..
Their episodic character-driven stuff never did it for me. Then a couple years ago I watched the 60's Trek on TVLand.. the pure camp of it was, well charming

It's kinda how I am with horror movies, the really great ones are few and far between (and sometimes just far away) but I waste time watching the bad ones anyway lol
