1. They're super high in antioxidants
When they claim weightloss and such, then I think it's a scam.

4. They are yummy however...
high in antioxidants, as Haruka pointed out, and fairly low-cal for a berry. But the claims that they improve brain function or cause weight-loss seems like BS.

I mean, I guess if you ate a lot of them that they might cause loose stool because generally berries in large quantities do cause "fun with bowels" which might lead to weight-loss but I don't know that I'd want to lose a lot of weight that way.

3. Here is a good way to see if something is a scam
If it makes all sorts of claims but in small print says "these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA"that's legalese for we are making up shit...

5. I think they should have to write
'We are making this shit up and you are fucking stupid if you buy it"

8. Well yes...
but I've never seen an FDA approved multivitamin, at all. I mean I know my vitamins work, especially the B-complex one, I can feel it by 10am if I forget to take it when I get up.

10. Yeah but they aren't labelled
With outrageous claims of healing powers.btw since the FDA has no reguulatory power with vitamins, there is no way to verify you are getting what they say you are getting.I suspect you notice that not all brands of vitamins are equal...

9. I'm taking this now as part of the Martha's Vineyard Detox, but I'm terrified of posting here
Edited on Wed May-06-09 07:01 PM by Mike 03
because in general people despise these sorts of diets and I'm too tired to defend myself.

But, Yes, I am trying it. No, I'm not a doctor, and I'm not doing this on doctor's orders. And yes, I understand there are no double-blind studies into the value of consuming these products, that I'm aware of.

11. Detox diets are bad for you
That's why. Your colon is supposed to be DIRTY . Detox diets tend to detox you of needed bacteria..

13. No, I understand that the epithelial cells of my intestinal tract, including my colon,
cleanse themselves. I would not give myself an enema.

I know how my body works.

That is just what it's called: "Detox" diet.

I ignore the goofy parts of the protocol.

I agree and I know that the body excretes toxins and that weird diets don't help that, but I also believe that caloric restriction (periodic caloric restriction) has benefits, based on medical studies.

Okay???

18. Caloric restriction slows down your metabolism
I wouldn't consider that a health benefit.

16. That's because crazy detox diets are bad for you
I'm actually a big proponent of organic diets, vitamins, and some natural alternatives. However, I don't think there's any value in things that are potentially really dangerous.

14. It's probably just best to listen to people who have studied this issue.
I don't feel comfortable rec'ing it.

I am doing it, but for personal reasons, and I understand the science and the risks of it.

17. I haven't tried them. But I found a new diet that I'm just starting
It's called "the eat whatever the hell you want, when you want" diet. I haven't lost any weight, but I feel pretty good, so something must be right.

Oh, and I tried to light some guy's house on fire, but that's another story.
