Why do Star Trek geeks not like Star Wars geeks?
I'm a band nerd so I don't have pony in this race. I think both are equally boring.

I always assumed fans of one were fans of the other. My coworkers today seem to be sharply divided over which is better. I don't really want to enter their conversations because my coworkers suck. So I'll leave up to the Lounge to help me understand why such a rift exists.

1. I don't know.
I'm pretty much in both camps, and I really like myself. They both have their strong points and their weak points.

10. B5 kicks both of their asses
And while I'm sure their are exceptions, B5 fans seem less disposed to costuming. Learning Klingon? That's just sad. Not cool, like learning say, elvish:

And speaking of fanboys and their costumes:

18. Pretty much.
I watched it when it was on. It had a lot of plot depth and complexity, lots of politics and whatnot. Hard for the casual viewer to get into. I liked it, but I'm a nerd. :P

20. They're really two completely different styles. Star Wars is fantasy set in a sci-fi 'verse. Whereas
Trek is Sci-fi set in a 'possible future' setting.

There is some overlap in the geek community, but for the most part they tend to attract people who are into very disparate things.

As Harrison Ford once told him, "You can type this shit, but you sure can't say it."
