I've owned a couple, not sports cars, but man.

Pontiac - we build excitement - Pontiac!

What a history.

Look at the 2009 G6 coupe:

WHY NOT KILL BUICK INSTEAD!!!!

That image is obviously cached for me. Forever a Corvette, not that I'm complaining.

8. Now it works, yes.
And yes, the G6 is a good looking car. I'm mad for the G8, though. Now that, that is a balls-out car.

2. Because Buick is profitable
and has a strong global presence because of China. I've never been a big fan of Pontiac. It's probably the GM car brand I like the least.

Poor pontiac.

It was my fave GM brand. Although I like chevy too.

Buick? Please. WTF Buick model has ever had a history like the Trans Am? What Buick makes you go, "woah?"

Not so much saying "woah" but saying "whoooolllly shiiiiit!!!!"

3.8 liter turbo. Laughably rated at 245 horsepower, likely closer to 350-400 stock. It's a legend, and the best car I've ever owned.

27. you lucky SOB
I saw one on Auto Trader about a month ago for $101,000- had like 7 miles on it- all paperwork, everything original and every option from the aftermarket company ( I forget name ) who did the modificaitons...

seems like around 25 to 30 grand is the going price in really good shape at 70,000-110,000 miles

9. I like the new Buick design
Edited on Tue May-05-09 10:30 PM by blue_onyx
The Enclave is a great looking vehicle and has done well. I really like the new design for the LaCrosse which has a similar design to the Enclave. I would consider buying the LaCrosse if I could afford it and I'm 25 which contradicts the idea that younger people won't consider the brand.

Who cares about the history of a brand. I care about the future and which brands will make GM stronger. I see more potential for Buick than I do for Pontiac.

14. I think it would have been brilliant as a niche (ie performance) wing for GM.
Ford has SVT, Toyota has TRD, Mazda has Mazdaspeed, etc. GM has pretty much always relied on aftermarket agreements (like Callaway) to get non dealer performance (yes, Ford also uses Roush, Saleen, etc, but they still have their own in house group).

15. It's a damn shame they killed off all the cool looking Pontiac CARS in recent years
Cutting the Firebird and Grand Prix, and instead focusing on the hideous Aztek and Vibe. Also making the remaining Pontiacs look just as generic any old Chevy/Buick/2000s generic car did not help matters either.

16. You know, it's almost like a rock band you love. Sometimes they suck, but hell
there is such a fan base waiting for redemption.

I loved the Pontiacs I owned. Never owned a Trans Am, but had a Sunbird (I loved that little 4-cylinder car) and a Grand Am. It was fun to sit behind the wheel of those cars. Fun.

Now we have Chevy (nothing against Chevy) Buick (hello grandad) and GMC (not a truck guy).

Bad move on GM's part, imho.

All they have now is the new Camaro.

I weep for the passage of Pontiac.

A sad casualty of our current economy.

18. More importantly, they're killing Saturn. AKA The only domestic make that doesn't suck.
Seriously, the closest Saturn has ever come to making a shitty car (and this one's still debatable) is the Ion. Reliable, interesting, non-crappy cars. And GM killed the nameplate.

Figures.

20. I dunno Saturn really went downhill after about 95 IMHO
I had a SL1 that went KA-BLOOIE on me right around 50,000 miles..within a week of having a $1,000 transmission problem fixed, I had to replace the battery and alternator...(and that ALMOST stranded me in the middle of no where at night).
I've only bought Toyotas since...

22. I agree...
I had a '95 SL2 that was a trooper. In late 2005, with 160K-ish miles on it- the AC died (A BAD thing for an almost black car to have no AC in South Louisiana). Plus, 3 of the power windows needed new motors. All in all, though the engine and transmission were still working great, the work it needed was WAY more than what the car was worth so I decided to trade it in on a 2006 Ion.

The Ion has been something of a money pit. Nothing big, but $200 here- $500 there, for things that really shouldn't be breaking on a fairly new car. Personally, I'll never buy another one.

Great little car! I was planning on replacing it once it got to be ten years old. Now I think I would be a total idiot to replace something that hasn't given me a single problem.

31. I'm still driving my '97 SW1.
I'm going to keep it as long as it's still reliable and not a money pit. So far I'm at 175K miles, almost completely problem free.

30. There are plenty of domestic vehicles that are
just as good, if not better than, as their foreign counterparts. Saturn is the brand I'm sad to see go too. I love the design of their vehicles. I, however, agree with GM's decision. It's not a profitable brand. The vehicles are either redundant (Aura = Malibu; Outlook = Enclave, Traverse, Arcadia) or failures (Astra). So that leaves the Vue and Sky which could easily live on as a Chevy or Buick.

They were both unmitigated pieces of crap.

Because of those experiences, I will never own another GM product. Just can't do it.

23. That last GTO was a missed opportunity
They should have gone retro and done a modern take on a '67. The GTO they made was a great performance car, but not what the traditional GTO mystique was all about. It looked like an Acura and didn't appeal to the muscle car crowd or the performance import crowd.

Plastic radiator. A f'n plastic radiator. I put three in it.

God I hated that car. I tore the door handle off in my hand.

God I hated that car.

I drive Hondas now. Mine is eleven years old and I just passed 130k.

The wife gets a new car in a few weeks. I'll keep my Accord for three or four more years.

GM lost my business forever. Putting a plastic radiator in a car. Stupid.
