2 women blow pot smoke in disabled child's mouth
CADDO COUNTY, Okla. - An Oklahoma mother will spend the next ten years in prison for letting another adult blow marijuana smoke in her child's face...and it was caught on camera.

Prosecutors in Caddo County say the video shot last year shows a woman blowing marijuana smoke into the mouth of a 7-year-old boy, who has Down syndrome.

1. 10 years is barely sufficient.

2. WTF? ... Sometimes I think there is a significant chunk of the population
that sits around and asks themselves: "Okay, what's something totally idiotic and harmful that I could do today?"

3. No wonder marijuana is illegal - it cures precongenital conditions.
:eyes:

As has been said, 10 years is not long enough.

4. I guess I just don't get the outrage.
Sure, I'll put myself in the OUTRAGE! firing squad, but...10 years for a little pot smoke? That's ridiculous. Take the kid away from her, sure, but it's not like pot is meth or something. It's less harmful than cigarette smoke and alcohol, but we don't see people going to prison for 10 years for exposing their kids to THAT.

My Dad gave me sips of his beer when I was that age. That bastard should have gone straight to prison!

Take the child away -- at least for a time, community service, parenting classes, etc. TEN YERARS?! Childmolesters and rapists don't get that much.

8. Exactly.
Shit, one of the assholes who helped torture and murder my Dad only got a six-year sentence (for agreeing to testify.) This punishment just seems WAAAAY out of proportion to the crime.

The anniversary of his death is coming up again. I might re-post the link--we'll see.

17. You are a strong person.
I am so sorry you lost your father in such an awful manner. What a beautiful post you wrote. I also agree with you on the topic of this thread. Jail for blowing smoke in a kid's face? My god, that is insane.

She sounds like an irresponsible parent who should lose custody of her child, but getting more jail time than some murders and rapists get? Makes no sense.

12. This is not new to pothead parents with teething babies.
Well, the camera part is new, but that's all.

Who, me? No, I used frozen carrots and watermelon rinds for my peanut.

14. Stupid, but hardly felonious assault.
Assuming it was legally allowed, I'd give the blower three months for misdemeanor assault because it is a substance the legislature found to be harmful (seperation of powers, you know) and because it was a disabled minor. If the mother was complicit, two months for her. This assumes neither have a rap sheet.

Disclaimer: This is not intended to be criticism of the trial court, just what seems fair based on the limited knowledge I have.

20. What an idiot of a mother. Just stupid.
Why would she do that? What purpose did it serve? Stupid stupid stupid. Maybe not 10 years worth of stupid, but pretty damn stupid nonetheless.

imagine it making you that stupid. Oh well, maybe she had some potent stuff.

25. It may be bad parenting...
or it may be empathy. If you know your child is living a life of pain that they do not understand and a little pot helps them, then ok. It would have been fine for her to get her child all sorts of prescription medication that could lead to so many side effects especially in a person with mental disabilities. Medications that could lead to dependency and possibly added psychological problems, ie suicide. 10 years is criminal to me, she should at the very most lost custody but not 10 years. Did it help the child? Was the child in pain? Weed is the most natural medication, processed lab derived pills are not.
