I caught "Purple Violets" this past week on one of the movie channels. Total lameage. Ed Burns needs to realize his NYC relationship movies suck. The only thing the movie had going for it was Patrick Wilson---he's so hot.

3. Sci-Fi the home of horrid
Hi,
I watched Bottom Feeder on Sci-Fi this weekend. The movies they produce are all garbage. I wish they would show some of the cheesy older ones from the 50s and 60s.

Oh, and Road House of course, but that is a good bad movie.

Peace

4. Last night I started watching The Way West
Edited on Sun May-03-09 10:10 PM by BurtWorm
and stopped as soon as a cheesy chorus started singing the theme song 15 minutes into the film. Maybe it would have gotten better, but I doubt it.

Life is too short to waste it on bad movies.

PS: (1967, with Kirk Douglas, Richard Widmark, Robert Mitchum and introducing Sally Field)

13. Amen. That was dreck.
I spent the whole movie thinking "Mothman seemed a lot more interesting than any of these guys, when's he coming back?"

And it had the most cliched soundtrack of any movie I have ever watched. I made a mental list ten minutes in of the five or six songs I was sure they were going to play (because they've been played in every single movie set during the Vietnam War ever) and they played all of them.

6. No Man's Land: The Rise of Reeker
Its about this dead guy that stinks really bad and whenever you see him coming or he's about to kill someone you see "stink lines" appear and the people in the movie say "Oh man that reeks!" And they get killed with a flame thrower.

11. Doubt
It's really hard to believe that they could take a good idea, add excellent actors, get 4 Academy Award nominations and still turn up with a bad movie.

The script (although the story itself was good) didn't make the transition from stage to screen. The direction and editing were gawd awful. I was embarrassed to watch it and I think the actors were embarrassed to be in it. Probably the most interesting part was the extras on the DVD, watching the actors in interview bobbing and weaving, trying to say something good about the movie without saying anything at all. I have to say, Streep is a master at this.

22. Hell Comes To Frogtown
starring Rowdy Roddy Piper, Sandahl Bergman(who was the villian in "Conan the Barbarian"), and Rory Calhoun...set in a post nuclear apocalypse world, Roddy is the world's most fertile man and is given the task of going to Frogtown and rescuing fertile young women who have been kidnapped by mutant frog-people.Filmed with a budget of about sixteen dollars. Definitely not a so-bad-it's good movie, but it does have a moment or two.

35. that was a brilliant film, but it wasn't for everyone.
 If you were looking for something else, it would be hard to engage in. Like most Coen brother films, only more obscure. It was about knowability, and the nature of evil, and about chance versus fate. The directors made parts of it deliberately obscure so the audience would focus on the themes and not on the normal emotional climaxes and movie devices.

For instance, not showing the murder at the hotel made the audience focus more on the sheriff's response to it, thus on the sheriff's perspective in subsequent scenes, whereas a poweful murder and shootout would have focused the audience on the death and on the bad guys, and the sheriff's confusion over what had happened wouldn't have been as pronounced. That unknowability has been a theme of the Coens since their first film, "Blood Simple." Often, no single character really understands what is happening, so that the audience sees the confusion of each character. That was paramount for the dream conclusion in "No Country."

Exceptional film-making, but not a normal film, if you weren't in the mood for it.

My opinions, anyway.

36. "In the Electric Mist." At least, "bad" in terms of my expectations.
If I hadn't had such high expectations, I might have thought of it as a nice little indie film with atmospheric charm. As it was, I saw it as a disjointed, underdirected mess with an incoherent script, an unlikely series of events, and an underutilized cast.

They had freaking Buddy Guy in the film, and he sang part of one song!! The character was supposed to be a local blues musician, so they got a genuine legendary blues master who can't act worth a damn, and made him act and gave him almost no chance to sing.

It had its moments, but overall was weak.

are those of us dumb enough to watch it.

I still can't figure out the plot and how some of the characters fit into this movie and it's not like some highbrow flick but just the concept that the movie was bad, the plot was weak and it was nothing more than an excuse to show Kate and Matt in skimpy clothing.
