Anyone else use closed captioning?
... who doesn't really need it? My hearing is just fine but I find that I seem to comprehend more when I can read the dialog.

I guess I'm what you would call one of them visual learners.

1. I use it a fair amount - it's very helpful.
I have a difficult time keeping myself from reading ahead, though - so many closed captions come up a few seconds before the thing is said.

It's awful watching something like "Whose Line Is It" and reading the funny before they say it, or on Jeopardy, reading the response before the answer is done being given.

Seems like every show or movie has at least a few occurrences in which the actor's garble their words to the point that I cannot figure out at all what they're saying, even after repeated rewinds.

Captioning really helps take care of it.

It drives my sister and her family batshit crazy when they come over, though - they just hate it. But they also for a long hated widescreen, and mostly, none of them read very much, either.

To me, it seems some kind of moral (and certainly intellectual) failure not to be able to deal with having captioning on.

6. I use CC a lot myself because of my lack of hearing
I love it when once in a while the CC guy goes rogue and starts typing random crap or swears.

2. Turned it on very briefly just this weekend...
...in order to make out a cryptic line spoken on Enterprise by a guy wearing three inches of latex. This was probably the first time I'd ever used the feature on this TV.

4. I use it when watching DVDs
I have moderate tinnitus, so i occasionally miss whispered or mumbled dialogue.

LyricKid uses it sometimes when we tell him to turn down the volume a bit on the TV... then he just reads it outloud anyway!

7. The tv's at the gym always have "CC" turned on
which is handy since the volume is always off (though you can hear it if you tune a radio to a specific frequency on FM --but it's great if you forget your radio and you want to watch).
