:hi: <-- waving with left hand.

How about degrees of lefty-ness? I bat, throw, golf, bowl, play tennis, play guitar, shoot, eat and write left-handed, but use scissors and computer mouse right handed. I figure I'm 90% left handed.

But only for writing, eating, and sewing. I do other things right handed.

70. It was just a necessary adaptation
Scissors don't work left-handed, and special left-handed scissors are hard to find, so in my early years I learned to cut right-handed. The same was true when I took violin lessons. Then, when I tried to learn to knit, the instruction books were all for right-handed people, so I just followed them. I can eat right-handed, but it feels "wrong." When I try to write right-handed, though, I can't control the pen properly.

Still, I eat left handed, shave left handed, brush my teeth left handed and some other fundamental, daily things.

Dad was a lefty, and so is my kid.

22. Nice post, ambi.
I had a highly ambidextrous mother who choose the right hand only when re-engineering the task for the left was too awkward or impossible. It made life easier for me and her other left handed kids. We're all fairly ambi. I used to flip out people at work when I'd switch the mouse over to the other hand when I needed to write. I'm at least a third generation lefty.

She had no idea why I switched over for writing. I really don't remember either, but I'll say this: I have the worst penmanship of almost anyone.

26. I can write with either hand.
Another thing I learned from my mother, although my right handed scrawl is a bit messy.

I suspect that you decided that right was correct and just "fixed" your writing hand. Smart little kids sometimes outsmart themselves like that. I started pronouncing the Rs in words at about that age because I noticed that people on TV said them that way.

20. Yo, baby, yo!
:hi:

I'm as lefty as they get!
Some truly great artistic geniuses are notably left-handed,
including Da Vinci, Michelangelo AND M C Escher!

Oddly enough, 5 of our last 7 presidents were lefties!
Unfortunately, 2 of the 5 were real a-holes who caused more
untold destruction upon the modern world than any others!

Ronald Reagan 40th
George H.W. Bush 41st

The last two, though, seem pretty cool:

Bill Clinton 42nd
Barack Obama 44th

(Perhaps this is because the a-holes were both right-wingers,
whereas the last two have stayed true to their natural--and
dare I say it, superior?--left-leaning predilections!)

An exhaustive list of famous lefties can be found at
http://www.indiana.edu/~primate/left.html

This here guy was NOT left-handed... he was, in fact,
rather pig-headed, ham-handed and swinish in the extreme!

Lovely and Elegant Pig-Mittens!

I'm somewhat ambidextrous. I can write left-handed, though I'm a bit slow. I eat pretty much ambidextrously. Whichever hand is more convenient. I can do most things as well left-handed as right, except throwing a ball. Never have really gotten that down left-handed.

My wife is a lefty, though.

Lefty:

Bat
Swing a tennis racket
Golf
Basketball lay-up
Shoot a hockey puck

Righty:

Write
Eat

Anything sports related I do left-handed. I write right-handed, but my handwriting is so atrocious that I have to wonder if I should have been doing it the other way for all of these years. I also use a fork/spoon with my right hand, which, again, is probably the result of childhood coaching.

Some things I forced myself to do right handed as a matter of convenience. I play a guitar right handed, even though my natural inclination would be to restring the damn thing McCartney style. I can fire a rifle either way, but generally went right handed because of the way the M-16 is designed.

Truthfully, I'm right handed, but I use my left hand for lots of things, including the computer mouse and often eating.

86. Another one here.
I say we should get special interest group status. I had to learn to use righty scissors in school because funding wasn't adequate to provide me with lefty scossors. I also struggle to find the right baseball glove.

110. I can't use lefty scissors.
Weird, I know. I tried in art class in elementary school, but they'd just bent the construction paper. So I use my right hand for cutting things. I think I really confused co-workers when I worked at Jo-Ann Fabrics; they'd see me cutting with one hand and then later writing with the other. OH MY FSM! :eyes:

105. Well, thank you.
But it was trained into me, I think, because the schools wouldn't let me be left-handed. So I wrote with my right hand while I was in school and did my homework left-handed.

96. Me
Everything lefty except golf, and that was a huge mistake.

My dad and grandfather didn't have lefty clubs. But the strong hand should never be the lead hand in golf. Leads to wild dispersion.

97. I am ambidexterous
I can write with both hands; however there are some things I do right handed such as use a fork, use scissors, throw a ball and brush my teeth. Things I do left handed are write, draw, use chopsticks, use a knife. My children are both left handed and left handedness runs in my family.

98. Another one here...
I write with my left-hand, but actually do lots of other things with my right. I eat "right-handedly", but I don't see any particular bias there as both hands are being used.

109. Mostly! I write left-handed, and draw left-handed and eat that way,
but I use regular scissors and never really *got* the idea of things made just for left-handers. But I can write with my right hand, and have a trick I can do where I write "forwards" with my right hand while writing backwards with my left--although I haven't practiced it for awhile. I use screwdrivers with my right hand and hammers, too. But put a fork in my right hand? (Say, at a crowded dinner table.) I lose my appetite.

Except for chopsticks. There is no hard and fast rule to which hand I prefer at any given task. I "mouse" right handed without problem. My right arm is a little stronger lifting weights.

112. There is something about lefty scissors here...
I just could never get them to work. Still can't. So I would just use my right hand for cutting (scissors, knives, etc). But eating, writing, holding things, and so on I use my south paw. The computer mouse I can use either hand.
