**** Official NFL Draft Thread****
Although the draft doesnt "officially" start until 4PM, it appears that the Detroit Lions and former Georgia Buldog standout QB have come to terms and he will become the first pick of the draft.

According to a source, Stafford will receive a six-year, $72 million deal with $41.7 million guaranteed. The contract could be worth as much as $78 million if Stafford achieves all of his playing incentives.

.....and he was never heard from again. Matt we hardly knew ya.

2. I'm bummed that Shonn Green isn't projected to be a first-rounder.
His pass catching skills are not there. However I've also seen projections of him going to the Cardinals. At least it sounds like he won't have to go to a place like Detroit or Cincy.

26. Well at least he went to a team with good potential.
With Sanchez in at qb they should be a fun team to watch. Way to go Shonn! The Hawkeye Nation salutes you!

3. I couldn't sleep
I'm a Seahawks fan. We have pick #4.

I'd like Aaron Curry or Brian Orakpo, but I have a bad feeling we'll be drafting Sanchez. :eyes:

6. Dude, after that contract last night, we can't AFFORD Sanchez
Forty-one million guaranteed? What are the Lions smoking? :scared:

There are other suitors in the Sanchez Dial-A-Date; let's hope they're feeling especially flush this morning and have some nice alternate draft picks for Ruskell and the Seahawks. :woohoo:

10. I'm just waiting to see where Pat White goes...
It'll be nice to have a former Mountaineer in the NFL who isn't going to spend more time with his name on the police blotter than he does on the front page of Sports section (like Adam Jones or Chris Henry have).

12. it's wierd. i'm a big fan of pro football - but only casually interested the draft.
i guess it's coz i'm only a casual fan of college football so don't really know the players well, they're unknown quantities, and most will be out the league in a few years. when it come to the off season, i'm much more interested in FA's and coaching changes.

13. Eagles picked Jeremy Macklin, WR.
He looks like a rocket with very good hands, and seems willing to do whatever is asked of him.
I'm happy with this start.

14. As a Redskin fan, this news doesn't thrill me
With D-Jax and Macklin, the Eagles may have the best 1-2 WR threat since Miami had the Marks Bros. (Clayton & Duper). McNab is getting old -- that's the only solace I'm taking from this.

who has been compared to Dorset. He is really looking forward to working with Westbrook.

18. Giants pick Hakeem Nicks #29 overall
WR-North Carolina

Strong, tough, polished route runner, big RAC yards

good over the middle receiver

Giants have been figuring to get this kid in this spot for the last month or so.

Now that Plax is gone, I'm happy with this.

27. The Jets picked Shonn Greene
and several of their fans booed, showing once again that they know nothing about football. Shonn Greene will be a fine NFL RB barring injury. I hope he is a fine RB somewhere other than NY though.

30. Aside from his need to improve his pass-catching Greene will be a fine RB.
Those who booed him obviously didn't see him play. He can bring it as good as any of them. Beanie Wells? Moreno? Gimme a break.

32. Moreno is a better all-around RB
He can catch the ball coming out of the backfield, and can cut and find openings better. Greene is more of a pure smashmouth runner.

33. They had a conservative but productive draft
Edge is pretty well at the end of the line, and Hightower hasn't shown himself to be more than a situational guy, so Beanie fills a definite need. Having a legit feature back might force defenses to play the run, opening things up even more for Warner or Leinart.
