1. Thanks!
I can't believe he behaved himself today, though.

4. Is this guy really an urban surveyor?
What school do people go to and become urban (or for that matter rural) surveyors? It sounds like a job I'd like.

7. The difference between urban and rural surveying is at least a country mile
He's mainly a rural surveyor by experience but has enough experience to do the urban surveying. He always argues against the tighter restrictions on urban surveys (very vehemently every day he works in Boston) but I or someone can usually persuade him to do the right thing and not be a douchebag. I occasionally cave into him because he has so much more experience than me and many a time he's right. However, I kick myself when I don't veto him and he was very wrong.

8. So you guys work in Boston
The place of my birth...ever survey Brainerd (sp?)Road? My earliest memories are of when we lived on that street.
Weird,,,as I type this I'm listening to the radio and the news came on ...Boston serial killer caught?

Anyways, I was serious about asking about surveying careers...I did very well in college geography and I like mental challenges, believe it or not!

9. No, I never surveyed that street
It depends on your state (or region). Some states have 4 year (some 2) programs in college for surveying. Generally, most people get in on the bottom rung as a rod man and then proceed up as their experience takes them. I have my job because of a bachelor in civil engineering but that is not required (but helpful). I'm currently taking night classes at Wentworth in their PLS program which will (supposedly) enable me to reach the prize of being a Professional Land Surveyor.
