I was born in the mid 60s; when we were babies, my parents strapped us into those old-fashioned infant seats, and my mom put the infant seat on the bench seat next to her when she was driving. If my dad was driving, she would hold the baby.

Growing up, I was best friends with a neighbor girl. Her brother had received severe injuries and permanent brain damage after a car accident when he was a year old - no car seat, of course. He is in his late 40s now, and completely dependent on his parents.
