Apparently the software got zorched. I had a backup of the software so I restored it. Unfortunately I lost some addresses that I had saved in it. At least I do not have to buy another one.

6. Thankfully I had the back up.
Not sure what happened that corrupted the software, it had been running just fine since May, until last weekend.

2. They have software? Who knew?
I thought mine had a "little miss Garmin" inside, spouting euphemisms like "recalculating" when what she means is "ya missed the turn, dummy!". You can back up the software? And restore it? I'm in awe, KitchenWitch! :hi:

5. The maps and the driver files are stored on a 2 GB SD card.
I did an update back in May of last year so they suggested I back up the original. Thank goodness that I did.

good job by the way- I need an inexpensive one to take on a fishing trip twice a year any suggestions? I should mention I am an idiot so it must be simple to operate and it will stay at the cabin.

I paid about $100 for it around Christmas of 2007. All the software is stored on a 2GB SD card.

7. Look for a MIO, they are cheap and work very well. The maps are a little less updated than the
bigger names, but I like it alot. If you tinker with it a bit, you can update the maps on your own, but that's another story.
