iPhone owners- Are they really all that?
Verizon Wireless can literally suck my left nut.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=8669744&mesg_id=8669744

I'm going to cancel my account when I leave work.

So, the only other reasonable choice around here is AT&T- which makes an iPhone a possibility. So, chime in and let me know if they live up to the hype!

1. PiGuy is the one you want to talk to.
It's amazing what those things can do. When he was here this weekend, I had the stereo on. He pointed his phone at my stereo signal, and it picked up on the song. Amazing stuff.

I know he seems to dig his.

Send your mercy to the folks at the local Verizon store, though- I'm going in there tonight, and if they question why I'm closing my account, they are going to hear the rantings of a hella-pissed queen!

I often hear songs in clubs that I would like to be able to download at a later time (but not enough to get off of my barstool, or off the dance floor to go ask the DJ).

3. I love my iPhone
I can't keep my hands off my iPhone. The last phone I had had all kinds of fancy features that I never figured out how to use because I never bothered to consult the thick book of instructions. The iPhone doesn't come with instructions--just a little sheet of helpful hints--and it's so easy to use I can get at all its features and use them all the time. I love the locator feature for finding my way in strange cities, I have a Japanese dictionary loaded onto it, and it's tracking my diet. Oh yeah, I make phone calls, too.

6. beware
the iPhone is actually a pretty mediocre PHONE, but it's a great handheld computer. frankly, I don't use mine as a phone that often (mainly because I don't need to) but I use other things on it all the time. and with the new software package (3.0) coming out this summer they say, it will continue as the best handheld computer out there. the one thing I would like is push email, but I can live without it.

9. well, the att network tends to be shoddy
it doesn't hold a signal all that well, and the call sound quality isn't great. plus, the touch screen tends to be funky when it's exposed to heat and moisture like being up by your ear.

10. Yeah- I have an ATT phone through work, so I know that the network is not great...
But it becomes a tradeoff of "dropped calls" vs "never getting some calls because the phone decides it's on break." Factoring in the abysmal service that Verizon has provided- I'm just at the point where I'm willing to make the tradeoff.

Thanks for the input!

14. I have no problems with the AT&T network
Probably because it's the only network we can actually get at our house. My son is on Verizon and gets no signal whatsoever where we live.

36. I don't have any problems either
I routinely get service where the Verizon wienies don't and I can't think of one occassion where a Verizon wienie got service and I didn't. Part of it is the phone itself. I've had the same POS Nokia 6010 for years and it's outlasted all of the other phones my family members have had. I've worn out 3 batteries with the thing. I even fell once and used it to break my fall. That phone just won't die.

12. I wanted an iphone but since it had no physical keyboard, i got the Tmobile G1 instead
it's not as good as the iphone, except for the keyboard, and on that it's better than the virtual keyboard the iphone sports.

the gym is a lot more interesting when you can watch videos. :D

13. The Dare had a touchscreen keyboard, too....
That didn't bother me at all. Some reviewers said that the dare's screen response was sluggish (and it probably was, comparatively speaking), but it wasn't a big deal for me.

A friend is suggesting that I give T-Mobile a try, but their service is kind of spotty around here.

Switching over to AT&T just because they have the iPhone(hype) is just absurd.

I have the BlackBerry Storm and it's just as good as the iPhone.

17. I'm not switching because of the iPhone....
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 01:34 PM by SacredCow
I'm switching in SPITE of Verizon's better coverage, because their customer service sucks with the suckage of 1000 black holes.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=8669744&mesg_id=8669744

Perhaps the Blackberry Storm is great, but unless I'm wanting to drop $600 (or whatever full retail is for that particular phone), I'll never know because Verizon has decided that they're fine with selling me the piece of shit that is the LG Dare.

Bottom Line: For the first time in 7 years, I opted to pay a chunk of money to get a "nice" phone instead of the freebie you can get every 2 years. And from day 1, it was a problem. They swapped it out for a brand new one (after months of fighting) and that one had the exact same problems. I switched back to an old phone that was lying around, and all problems disappeared. Conclusion: The phone is a POS. I have asked to trade in the Dare towards the purchase of a different phone, and they are acting like I just copped a feel on their dead grandmother.

:grr:

because of a screen click issue, and they offered me a brand new one. They were courteous and I didn't have any problems with them. I even got my new phone shipped to me overnight, free of charge.

Maybe it depends upon who you talk to. Sometimes they have pretty shitty customer service. Other times they have five-star service.

19. I updated the previous post- see above.
I've been given a new Dare, and it has the exact same problems. I switched back to my OLD phone, and all problems went away. The phone is clearly shit, and all they will do is offer me ANOTHER Dare.

20. Oh btw you know the price on the iphone has come waaay down
right? I got my Iphone for about 100 bucks less than I got a blackberry a few years ago (I don't like blackberry anymore..waaay too difficult to surf with). Plus the good thing with AT+T is you get rollover minutes as well..and since my conversation time varies from month to month that is a nice thing to me.

And Apple refurbs are great. I bought a refurbished iPod and its easily the best one I've ever owned.

And although I'm not crazy about AT&T, it's a great improvement over my previous carrier, Nextel, which sucked out loud. The phone is a decent phone with some very nice features, and the hand- held computer functions are really cool. Love it.

it's a wonderfully designed device. As far as just basic phone service goes, I'm not sure it's amazingly better in that dept. than anything else. But it's ability to help you find almost anything you want to know quickly and in a cool way, is great. Also, Apple is really great at the human computer interface thing.

37. I love my iphone
My first cell phone, 10 yrs ago, was with AT&T. I swore I'd never go back to them since the service and reception sucked but a few plans later I was with Cingular who merged with AT&T. About a month ago I got my iphone and haven't had any problems with the network or sound. Some features such as camera aren't as good as other phones I've had and I still can't figure out how to save a phone number to my contacts directly from a call but I haven't had any problems big enough for me not to recommend it.

Once you get away from "typical" phone features I love the ones on my phone. I bought it at an apple store and the guy spent awhile answering my questions, transferring the info from my old phone, and setting up features such as my email and password to use the phone (I can still make an emergency call without entering it). I haven't had any difficulties with the touch screen. I never use any of the ipod features since I have an 80GB ipod but I use the other ones more often than I thought I would since they're so easy to use.

38. Love mine, but we also don't have to deal with ATT here.
I do have some petty gripes about my 3G iPhone (no cut-and-paste function, can't attach more than one photo at a time to email, etc.) but it's so far superior to any cell phone I've ever owned that I can't help but love it. It's absolutely one of the best and most useful gifts I've ever received. :hi:
