(I squeak talk with my kitties...it's useful) I saw in a documentary that the classic cat "meeow" is actually more of a compound word with two distinct elements. The "mee" part is the welcoming and greeting part...the "ow" part is the cautionary qualification "but don't get too close". Baron Von Squeeky is only giving you only the first part which indicates that he welcomes you without qualification ...among other things. It tends to be a multi-purpose call. Whatever else it means it indicates that he does not feel at all threatened by you...he may be looking to move in.
