Pure Breed Golden Retrievers (Anaheim Hills)

2 pure breed golden retrievers who are 5 year old brothers are looking for a good home. They have just been groomed with their summer cuts and are current on their shots. They are friendly dogs and primarily stay outside. They have papers.

They are looking for a new home because we want only one smaller dog that can go inside.

1. The nastiness of people never ceases to amaze me.
Every time I think people have reached a new low in hatred and selfishness, I see more that proves there much not be a low low enough. It's sad.

2. Pets are just accessories to people like that.
Not a part of the family. :(

3. assholes - one per customer
We ended up adopting our neighbor's cat, otherwise she was just going to take it to the pet shelter because she couldn't be bothered with it anymore.

This is the cat she got rid of:

4. I knew a couple once that put two young dogs down because
the couple had just had a baby.

They didn't want the dogs to "bother" the baby.

8. On a positive, at least they're attempting to find a home
rather than dumping them on a shelter, unhousetrained, etc.

Yeah, they suck, and probably won't screen the new home, but I know that breed rescues troll craigslist like rabid dingos for just this sort of thing. I hope they wind up in a nice, safe GR rescue.

I won't post what I hope happens to the folks setting the ad because they suck and shouldn't be allowed to have dogs if they're just going to trade them in. Dogs aren't Hyundais people.

10. It is a small positive
I do hope a GR rescue is able to take those beautiful boys in. The actual ad has photos and they are gorgeous dogs.

13. Even if that level of suck is their real situation--
it pains me they are so unaware of how much that sucks that they don't just lie. Would it have been too much trouble to come up with "No longer able to care for two active dogs," or "may need to relocate and can't guarantee good home any longer" just to not look heartless?

Nope, they just came out with "Dogs disposable, want less hassle." (Five year olds--meant they spent time with that family--*their* family. Not to form a connection after that time is weird. When my brother-in-law's dog passed on I felt like a member of my family was gone, and I didn't even see him all that much.)

15. No, I'd rather they didn't lie.
I'd not want another family to answer that ad and get two rambunctious, untrained, outside-only labs.

Honesty is best in cases of animal adoption. When my rescue takes a dog in (by an owner's choice, at least) we ask for the bad and ugly before the good. We don't judge as honesty helps us help the dog more quickly, and keeps mystery at bay.

If they want to look like douchebags, that's fine. I don't care about them. I care about the dogs.

12. Seems to me like they are responsible and good pet owners.
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 11:08 PM by Rabrrrrrr
They've taken care of the dogs, and they are honest that they now prefer to have a dog, instead of dogs, and one that can stay inside.

Who knows - maybe it's an older couple that's having a hard time with the outsideness, or maybe they're moving to a place with a smaller yard, perhaps even an apartment.

The mere fact of getting rid of a pet or pets does not make one an asshole.

I have to give them credit for being serious about it, for not just dumping them in a forest, or otherwise being dishonest.

I mean, I'm all for one for believing that the majority of human beings are worthless crap, but I don't see it in this couple at all. Maybe they are - but we don't know. This ad doesn't offer anywhere near enough info to make judgment.

14. This happens all the goddamned time with reptiles too.
People say, "Oh, look at the pretty pattern! I want it!", and don't bother to find out that in a few years it will be 6 feet long and need a gigantic enclosure.

getting no responses, you might be a bit harsh on this one. My first thought upon reading this was that there was a new baby added to the family, and that larger dogs - even those with a history of non-violence - present too much of a risk (even if it's only 1% on a scale of 1-100).

At the very least, the humans you hate are trying to find the dogs a good home. Unless you know the reasons for sure, I'm not sure you're being fair calling them "selfish fuckers." You might be right, but how do you know for sure?

edited, typo
