Did anybody else here take French in college/H.S.?
Does anybody remember a learning series on video of a family and they all spoke elementary French. There were two sisters and the older sister was dating some dude and the little sister was kind of braty and always getting into trouble. I think one of the episodes was them losing the keys to a scooter. Then at the end of the episode they would show stills of what happened and ask questions.

1. I remember that as a PBS series
damned if I can remember the name of it. Lelapin took French for 4 years in HS and at least 2 in college. I'll send her this link.

:hi:

4. That sounds about right. It was very PBSy
That's funny. It took me a while to "get" Lelapin's username. First I thought it was a made Tolkeinesque name or something. It was only when I separated the Le did I get it. :D

2. I minored in French, but our language labs, both hs and college,
only used audio, no video. I do remember whole portions of the dialogues, though.

Allez! Ne discoutes pas tout le temps!

7. No.
I took it in junior high. After I had already completed the Spanish curriculum several weeks ahead of schedule. :P

This was in Westport, Conn., Martha Stewart's former diggings, where foreign language instruction in 7th grade is de rigueur.

I believe that photo, incidentally, is from the episode that every het guy remembers.

Check out this link, by the way:

And the featured image at the top-right of your screen is likewise from that episode.

21. I took French in both HS and college. I don't recall that, but we did read "Le Petit Prince".
Maybe I'm just old. Back then a foreign language was mandatory.

27. Mireille, je t'aime BEAUCOUP.
Edited on Fri Mar-27-09 01:13 AM by Gabi Hayes
In many scenes in French in Action, "Mireille" appears braless, in the same way that "Stéphanie," her character from the 1985 French film À nous les garçons<2> does. This generated some controversy at the time and was condemned as "sexist" by feminists at Yale University.<3>

Allain was featured in the November 1988 edition of Playboy in "Stars of the Cinema in 1988."

if you do some googling, you might find some interesting pictures of her

25. Me! Started taking French in junior high...
It was called "Conversational French" and we had these 45 records of conversations that we had to memorize to learn the language. The ones that stick in my mind were about asking directions to the library (Où est la bibliothèque?) and about someone breaking his leg (Je me suis cassé ma jambe...). Anybody else remember these? :D

26. In high school
I remember a tape story that started out:

"Taxi, taxi"

"Pas libre, dommage.."

Pardon, Mademoiselle, ou allez vous?"

"Quinze rue Jacob, mais.."

"Je passe par la, permittez mois je vous conduir."

(Of course this was 45 years ago, so I apologize for my forgotten French.)

28. oh yes i remember
:boring:

i took French for countless years starting in 1st grade and ending in 11th.

i think there was only 1 year i didn't take French and took Spanish instead (3rd grade I think).

on the bright side, i found i could read Italian and Spanish without too much trouble after all those years of a Latin based language.

well i could read it then, ha, not so much now. :wtf:
