Dates indicate when a single reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

3. I'm sorry, but thank you for playing!

1. "Wooly Bully" did not come out until 1965. That makes it from the middle 1960s, not the early part of the decade.

2. "Wooly Bully" never went to #1 in Billboard. It peaked at #2.

5. Remember "Alley Oop" by the Hollywood Argyles?
I LOVED that song as a kid. 1960, I think. I voted for "Georgia on My Mind" of the ones you posted, though. Ray Charles is as good as it gets.

7. Ray Charles
"You don't know me" was also another early 60's hit that I recall fondly by Mr. Charles, but I don't know how high it went. My favorite song of this early 1960's period only made it to number 2, I think. That was the 1963 hit "Be My Baby" by the Rondelles. I also liked "Sheila" by Tommy Roe in 1962 that was a number one and also "A World Without Love" by Peter and Gordon, a number one tune in 1964. And of course the several Beatles tunes that made number one in '64.

9. It's "Ronettes," not "Rondelles."

11. like 'em all, but I voted for . . . (drum roll) . . .
You can dance
ev'ry dance with the guy
who gives you the eye,
let him hold you tight.
You can smile
ev'ry smile for the man
who held your hand
'neath the pale moonlight.
But don't forget
who's taking you home
and in whose arms
you're gonna be
So darlin',
save the last dance for me

Oh, I know (oh I know . . .)
that the music's fine
like sparkling wine
go and have your fun.
Laugh and sing
but while we're apart
don't give your heart
to anyone.
But don't forget
who's taking you home
and in whose arms
you're gonna be,
So darlin',
save the last dance for me.

Baby don't you know
I love you so,
Can't you feel it
when we touch?
I will never never
let you go
I love you oh so much.

You can dance
go carry on
till the night is gone
and it's time to go.
If he asks
if you're all alone
can he take you home
you must tell him no.
'Cause don't forget
who's taking you home
and in whose arm's
you're gonna be,
So darlin
save the last dance for me.

'Cause don't forget
who's taking you home
and in whose arm's
your gonna be
So darlin
save the last dance for me,
(ooooohhh),
Save . . . the last dance for me.

(ok . . . now that you've sung it -- either out loud or in your head -- don't you think it's a great song?) . . . :)

12. Hey, Train!
There's Ray Charles and then there's everybody else. Given that, it's neat to see Del Shannon faring so well.

Cheers,
:smoke:

13. Some good tunes, but Ray Charles' "Georgia on My Mind" is a classic...
Doesn't even sound like an "oldie" today.

Timeless.

14. Ray had 2 dozen songs better than "Georgia," at least.
Part of me wanted to vote for "Blue Moon," especially because it's gotten so little support in this poll. But I had to go with Del.

Come on, folks, that is the SINGLE GREATEST CHEESY-ASS ORGAN SOLO EVER!!!!!!!!!!

17. "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" -
one of the great expressions of romantic vulnerability. Carole King's version on "Tapestry" brings tears to my eyes.

See also "If I Fell" by the Beatles.
