Poll question: Which city do you live closest to?
Here's a different kind of geography poll. If you live outside the U.S., you can still guess if you want to.

I live closest to Philly.

We've got at least 4 major metro areas.

22. So aren't the first four practically the same city?
A lot of people will live further from any of your choices than any of the first four are from each other.

29. No, because Boston's in New England
Edited on Tue Mar-24-09 05:36 PM by mvd
And NYC is northern Middle Atlanic.. maybe I could have put in D.C. instead of Philly, but I had to favor some areas with only ten options.

40. It's all "north" and pretty much "northeast" to me. Why not Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio?
Dallas is north Texas, Houston is coastal Texas, and San Antonio is south Texas, sort of.

54. For that matter, why Dallas over Houston?
We're only the fourth largest city in the continental US and only the first word spoken from the Moon ;)

Yes, we understand there's only ten slots. Still, it's pretty northern-centric. Why not New Orleans instead of Pittsburgh? Miami instead of Boston?

what with being in a bowl-like valley versus our flat, unlimited, unbordered coastland ;)

61. True. And Sam Houston resigned rather than lead his state into secession
so there's a definite pro-Confederacy bias by picking Dallas, too! :)

(Just for historical clarity, Sam Houston was pro-slavery and anti-abolition, but he had led the revolution to break Texas from Mexico and had then fought to get Texas into the US, so he was against secession from the US, and he resigned as governor rather than take part in it).

16. Except DC really isn't a city per se.
Rather it is a twisted mind trap meant to ensnare unsuspecting drivers within the clasps of its dreaded traffic circles and one way detours. One should head the warning from the Washington Beltway, which is actually serves one large mother traffic circle and spawns little traffic circles within its territory.

An evil, wretched, godforsaken place.
