Poll question: Favorite non-horror Stephen King film.
Edited on Mon Mar-23-09 09:12 PM by nytemare
I just got finished watching "The Green Mile", which was a wonderfully bittersweet film. Come to think of it, a week ago, I watched "Dolores Claiborne", a great character study.

I tend to like Kings character study films more than his full-blown horror stories.

So, I am including "The Shining" and "Misery" on the list, even though they are horror-ish, they do delve deep into the personality.

Which is your favorite, and why?

Stand by me on the green mile!

4. Has some potential, but i think it's one of his worst written.
The story is good, but whether it's his fault or Straub's, it loses too much energy with all of Wolf's and especially his darned cousin's whining. It got so repetitive, with all the nonsense about a "fever," and all the "smells." Might work in a movie if they cut most of that, but I can see some director trying to make it all cute for comic relief, and killing the whole story. I had to fight through some scenes in the book. I'd get so mad I'd toss the book aside and not pick it up until I'd read something else.

I liked the sequel, Black House, much better.

2. The Green Mile packed an emotional wollop, to put it mildly

Misery, Shawshank, and Dolores Claiborne were excellent, but it's The Green Mile by a mile.

5. I cry whenever I watch it.
and I wonder how Doug Hutchison wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actor as Percy. He was detestable, yet pulled off a humanity in it.

The acting all around was superb.

12. His work knocked me out.
If you want to see what he's up to these days, turn on LOST. He's Horace Goodspeed.

18. I remember him from the very early X-files.
As Tooms, the mutant who could stretch himself skinny to fit into air vents and ate people's livers, then went into hibernation.

Creeped me the fuck out.

I think I have a crush on him, now....LOL.

3. Can't decide between The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption
Stand By Me was wonderful, too. And now that I think of it, there are many images from Dolores Claiborne that have stayed with me over the years.

10. I can't pick just one
Edited on Mon Mar-23-09 10:03 PM by Juche
Shawshank, green mile and Stand by me are all great films. If I was forced to choose only one, it'd probably be stand by me.

I haven't seen a few of those films. I haven't seen Dolores Claiborne or hearts of atlantis.

13. I've always considered a non-horror interpretation of The Shining
As in, the hotel isn't necessarily evil; Jack Torrance is just going crazy, and Danny picks up on it, causing him to see freaky shit. The movie was just plain awful.

16. Toss-Up between Stand By Me and Green Mile....
Shawshank was good, but it just didn't resonate with me like Stand By Me or Green Mile.

I was VERY disappointed in Apt Pupil- it was my favorite story in that collection, but it made a terrible movie.
