Anybody ever watch the 80s comedy "Trading Places"?
I stars Eddie Murphy, Dan Ackroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis.

I remember watching it all the time when I was young. My parents owned the vhs of it.

It's amazing how much truth it has in it pertaining to our current situation with corrupt people on Wall Street etc. It has a satisfying ending too. It's good to see the bad guys get a comeuppance like that.

1. Yeah. I own that VHS. I remember being shocked
at the 'bet' and what the Dukes were betting as they destroyed Dan Ackroyd's character's life.

2. Ripped off the 3 Stooges short Hoi Polloi, but still very funny.
Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche were all funny as hell!

And Jamie Lee Curtis gets nekkid as well! Twice! :wow: :wow:

3. Loved it.
Especially the scene where Jamie Lee Curtis tells Dan Ayckroyd, "By the way, rent isn't the only thing that costs money around here. You sleep on the couch."

Hubba. :9

5. I always enjoyed that movie
and you are right. It's almost chilling how that movie pretty much was spot on about the greed and manipulation that was rampant on Wall Street.

8. First movie I ever went to alone; three other people in the whole theater
and we still all laughed out loud.

Remains one of my top 5 "mood lifters" even now.

10. I know I was just thinking that yesterday
when watching it. I was like: "And that guy's eventually became a senator.." Still not seated, but it's his. :)

12. i was thinking about that a couple years ago
just how well the comedy has held up in the 25+ years since the formative years of Reaganism...just as sharp and witty now as it was then...

14. The pawn shop scene was classic.
Pawnbroker: Burnt my fingers, man.

Louis Winthorpe III: I beg your pardon?

Pawnbroker: Man, that watch is so hot, it's smokin'.

Louis Winthorpe III: Hot? Do you mean to imply stolen?

Pawnbroker: I'll give you 50 bucks for it.

Louis Winthorpe III: Fifty bucks? No, no, no. This is a Rouchefoucauld. The thinnest water-resistant watch in the world. Singularly unique, sculptured in design, hand-crafted in Switzerland, and water resistant to three atmospheres. This is *the* sports watch of the '80s. Six thousand, nine hundred and fifty five dollars retail!

Pawnbroker: You got a receipt?

Louis Winthorpe III: Look, it tells time simultaneously in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad.

Pawnbroker: In Philadelphia, it's worth 50 bucks.

Louis Winthorpe III: Just give me the money.

Louis Winthorpe III: How much for the gun?

The ending sequence where Mortimer Duke says "fuck him" when referring to his fallen brother is hilarious.

20. If you saw Coming to America, Murphy's character tossed a couple of NY bums a wad of cash.
It was the Dukes.

Margin call, gentlemen!

18. Al Franken's a great actor.
He put lots of fab characterizations into "Amtrak Baggage Handler #1".

It's also educational. Ayckroyd taught us about commodity futures!!!
