Most new musicians these days are not artists, they are performers. If they are listed on the writing credits at all, it generally just means they happened to be in the same room when the writer wrote the song. The so-called "artist" records the voice tracks and then producers and session musicians do the rest.

Willie has more musical talent in the tip of his pinky than most of them have in their entirety.

Alot of jazz-inflected phrasing grained his voice which went against the countrypolitian tide in the early 70's, which is why other than his songwriting, he couldn't get a contract.

Listening to his phrasing in his own versions of "Crazy" to see how they bend the notes into each other, not unlike Ella Fitzgerald. Totally different singers obviously, but coming from the same place in the way they approached a song.

I've met Willie a few times over the years personally and professionally and he's an incredibly nice guy, lots of laid-back charm.

And some might say that face has character, not all worked over to stay younger than anyone that old should be. Men are luckier than women that way. Sometimes.

You're the making the mistake of only focusing on the perceived nasality.
Nelson is a far more supple vocalist than you are perceiving.

I wore out three Stardust albums, the first of which was 8 track, the other best was The Red Headed Stranger. I've lost track, but have seen him at least 10 times, the best of which was at Red Rock at Denver.
