My psychiatrist said I'm still crazy
and ordered another round of blood work. A word of advice: If you ever decide to get mentally ill, pick one where they don't have to do blood work on you. I know being crazy looks glamorous and exciting, but that blood work isn't any fun.

21. "Oogen floogen" means "to look floogen".
Maybe the voices are REALLY saying "Oogen vloogen". That means "to look flea eyes", according to Babel Fish translator.
Do you have pets? Maybe you are supposed to "kill fleas" if you see any sign of them.

2. The only one time I've ever disagreed with you, Droopy.
A needle stick is the least I'd ever be worried about.

I get regular labwork for other things. It's just a little poke.

5. I can handle the discomfort, but I can't look at it when they stick me and
when the blood is coming out. I have to look the other way and try not to puke.

17. Some people are skiddish about needles, and seeing blood. I don't mean to make light of it.
I should have considered to be more sensitive to the topic.

It just doesn't bother me. I can watch them take several tubes of blood, and that sight does not disturb me.

Only thing that gives me some bother is giving blood. Sometimes after I sit up, I faint. I have found that drinking a buttload of OJ beforehand helps with that.

19. You're alright Lil Missy
This thread is half serious and half light-hearted anyway. I have to poke fun at myself sometimes so I don't get too wrapped up in myself.

6. I'd want to get something out of that
If they are going to do it that often they better be paying me to do it. $50 a tube sounds like fair compensation.

10. Hi Droopy...
I can kind of relate to this post.

My shrink, who is also a neurosurgeon, says I am NOT crazy (hard to believe), but he does say that my major depression is caused by diabetic vascular disease which has impacted the small capillaries in my brain.

So, when I first got diagnosed and was hospitalized with depression, they were running all sorts of brain scans on me, and trying to find a med combo that would work.

Needless to say, they had me on some powerful shit...Risperdal, Remeron, etc.

Because of these cocktails, they had to monitor my blood levels everyday to see if the med levels were OK in my blood. Real pain in the ass.

That being said, I have to stick myself several times a day for the diabetes, and I'll tell you something...it doesn't bother me in the least anymore. Also, when I get blood drawn every two weeks (another problem), I tell the person drawing the blood to "make it hurt". LOL

I'll take needles any day over uncontrolled depression...depression hurts more that anything I can imagine.

I'll take them needles to if it means being able to see the same reality that everyone else does- and it does. :hi:

15. What's crazy?
As William S Burroughs once commented:

"A psychotic is a guy who's just found out what's going on."

It's a wonder we're not all crazy.

18. I guess we are all maybe a little bit crazy
And insanity is often defined within the context of a culture.

No one is perfect and happy people can be delusional. I guess maybe a good indication of insanity is when you want to end your life for reasons that are only found inside your head. If your will to live is being over-ridden you need help.

22. Blood work for mental illness?
Is it to check for certain markers of illness? I hate to sound stupid but I didn't know there were any blood tests available for any mental illness.
Or is the blood test to check whether your medications are having side effects on your organs?
I also hate getting pricked by a needle for blood tests. I have small veins and the nurses often have problems getting the needle in. Sometimes they used needles designed for babies on me. Really.

24. I know someone who used to need blood tests for Clozapine.
First every week, then two weeks, then once every month. Thankfully they're not on it now.
