I swear it doesn't bite the shit out of you when you attempt to clean its cage. And it never, ever turns its back on you when you want to talk to it. And it never, ever kills the other (may she rest in peace) budgie you might get him for company.

:pals: It's good to know I'm not a freak with this; having been to breakfast with others I get the weird glances, but I also suspect it may be a regional thing.

I just might start a separate thread about this! Now, I'm curious....

47. So do I
Which is why I can see why some people would like ketchup on their eggs. I find ketchup to be a rather bland condiment probably because I've long since burned off my taste buds eating five-star Thai. Ketchup is vinegary and mildly spicy so I suppose people like it in their eggs for the same reason we like tabasco.

14. I love birds. Have you read any Gerald Durrel? (My guess is that you have). Not strictly about
birds, but heavily weighted towards them - at least many are...

Is there a difference between birding and bird-watching? I've never participated in any formal "bird" activity, but I've studied them since early childhood, and even raised a few (from a rescued rose breasted grosbeak to canaries and a duck that was in love with my dad (and our dog was in love with the duck - taboo on many fronts since they were different species AND both females...hee).

Birds are incredible. I love them. Good luck!

22. I'm not really that serious about it.
I won't go out of my way to go bird watching, but I do enjoy the ones that come around. I did build a Blue Bird house and put it up in my back yard, so I'm kinda partial to those. I do enjoy watching the little fledglings come out of the house and wash themselves in my birdbath.

Naturally I hate House Sparrows. I didn't have to kill any this year, but usually I have to exterminate one or two in January or February to keep them out of the Blue Bird house.

45. Birds are interesting.
We've currently got a young sharpie terrorizing our bird feeder (raptor fast food!) but I haven't got a good picture of her yet. She'll stand on the streetlight and leave a big mess on whatever car is parked beneath it.

Our parrot is most interested in the crows, and they are interested in her because she imitates them perfectly. I can watch the crows in the trees looking at her and listening and probably thinking "WTF?"

There's also a raven couple around. Somehow they've learned to capture mosquito fish in our fountain. For months I'd been wondering who was tipping over the plants in the fountain and speculating about everything from cats to kids to herons until I caught one of the ravens at it. I don't think I've ever noticed ravens fishing before, but now that I think about it I have occasionally seen them in tidepools and shallow streams.

We've also got a little hummingbird, a rufous or an allen's, claiming the fountain territory. He's a vicious little beast who will charge anyone who visits. There's a seasonal rotation of humming bird species claiming the fountain -- when one kind leaves another moves in.

it would be cruel to the bird to have it when the other pet of the house would look at the bird and think "dinner"

I do however have a lot of seagull pics (they're annoying but fun to take pictures of, and you can "pose" them by feeding them.

I heard a bird I hadn't heard before. It was smaller than a sparrow and very flitty, so it was hard to see the markings. Unfortunately a few collided with the glass windowed walkway and I learned they were yellow rumped warblers. Migratory.

64. I love birds...I even have a parrot who rules the roost at my home
I swear one of these days I am going to have an accident trying to watch hawks flying while I am trying to drive....

Two months ago I witnessed quite a funny sight. Two police squad cars had pulled slightly off the road and several officers were standing around a swan that had decided to settle in the grass at the entrance to a neighborhood. The way the officers were standing back, scratching their heads, I was almost betting they had been threatened by the swan.
The swan just looked like it had taken possession of the area and to hell with everyone else.

Two squad cars, 2+ officers vs THE SWAN.....
...can you imagine the first officer calling for backup?
