Not to mention it could get infected. And get all red and stuff. He'll be walking around with a dead Narwhal hanging out of one of the several red, swelling stab wounds.

Gonna need a fucking CASE of Bacitracin after that.

And a Glade Plug-in for the smell.

Rotting Narwhal has a rather unpleasant odor, I'm led to understand.

23. For me, it's not so much a question of whether God exists as it's a question
of, Does God exist in the way that we WANT him/her to? As to that, no, I don't think so.

There's probably something bigger and more advanced/powerful/important than we are out there in existence, but I certainly don't think that he/she is personally concerned with our lives. In fact, I'd guess that if something like a God exists, it probably doesn't even know that we're here. Are *you* intimately concerned with the life choices that one particular ant makes? Or even one individual bacterium in your gut?

I have no problem with a belief in a higher being, but the whole, "We're so special that the most powerful, important being in all existence chooses to spend its time keeping account of who we have sex with and how often!" That whole notion is just ridiculous to me. Our entire galaxy is probably nothing more than a molecule of his/her body. Meanwhile, we murder and torture and hurt each other constantly over whose special relationship with "God" is better/truer/deeper/ad nauseum.

In reality, I guess I'm a loose Deist, but in practicality, I stand with the atheists and agnostics. If there IS a God, he/she/it is entirely too enormous and distant to ever be a factor in our lives, so to me, religion is mostly a waste of time and money that could be spent doing things that help people *without* hurting anyone in the process.

29. My great freaky ephiphany
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 12:23 AM by cherish44
There are things our human minds just can't comprehend. We have only our five senses. Who is to say that things do not exist unless our brain can sense them. Our minds can only understand linear concepts of time. Everything has a beginning and an end. If that is the case then there really has to have been a time when absolutely NOTHING existed. Well then how did all this get here? Obviously there are things that have always existed and were not formed or created or born. But logically, as our brains can't comprehend it, everything has to somehow be created. How could something have always existed? There has to be things that have always existed because otherwise there had to be a time when there was absolutely nothing. In our line of thinking all those atoms and molecules had to be created somehow... how can something be created from nothing?

I don't think it's a dude in the sky with a long white beard though. Probably a race of beings way advanced beyond us with a collective consciousness or something. I'm not inclined to believe that life as we know it was just a happy accident, but I'm not so arrogant as to purport to know who or what "god" is. It's just way above and beyond us.

41. per Epicurus
One of the most persistent issues concerning belief in God is the problem of evil. Epicurus's argument still holds up:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Actually, I believe in God. But my definition of that may not be the same definition someone else has, so it's a moot point. And my belief in a God is in no way akin to the Flying Spaghetti Monster analogy, so that little jokey-poo is lost on me, sorry atheist folk.

Plus, no one can prove or disprove a damn thing in that realm anyway.

51. I have no Idea.I need proof one way or the other to believe in something.
Blind faith is not my thing but for some peoples, even in the cruelest of conditions,

they continue to believe in the existence of God like in this case:

"Yet it is also true that even in Auschwitz some Jews continued to study the Talmud and observe the traditional festivals, not because they hoped that God would rescue them but because it made sense.

There is a story that one day in Auschwitz, a group of Jews put God on trial. They charge him with cruelty and betrayal. Like Job they found no consolation in the usual answers to the problem of evil and suffering in the midst of this current obscenity. They could find no excuse for God, no extenuating circumstances, so they found him guilty and, presumably, worthy of death. The Rabbi pronounced the verdict. Then he looked up and said that the trial was over: it was time for the evening prayer."

I just copied the first article about this that I found with Google but I learned about

that event a long time ago.God even had a defense lawyer! If He had chosen to be represented

by the same team that O.J had,God would have gotten away with it.
